Social Forestry Day Celebration 🌲

Every year on June 2, Bhutan celebrates Social Forestry Day to highlight the importance of forests in supporting livelihoods, environmental conservation and sustainable development.

On the occasion of Social Forestry Day, the Lingmethang Range observed the day through a plantation program at the Dorjilung Hydropower Project (DHPL) campsite in Gyalpoizhing. A total of 100 participants from DHPL, Gyalpoizhing, and Lingmethang Range actively took part in the plantation drive. Tree species including Red Sandalwood, Cassia, and Lagerstroemia were planted within the colony area to enhance green cover and improve the local environment.

Likewise, the PNP Headquarter and Ura Range Office celebrated Social Forestry Day through a plantation program conducted in collaboration with Ura Higher Secondary School. The event engaged around 50 students, 14 non-teaching staff and forestry officials, reflecting a strong partnership between the forestry sector and the local community in promoting environmental stewardship.

The programs demonstrate the collective commitment of all participants towards environmental conservation, sustainable forest management, and building a greener and healthier future for generations to come.

Happy Social Forestry Day 🌲

***Annual Rimdro of Phrumsengla National Park***

Today, coinciding with an auspicious Z***r, Phrumsengla National Park conducted its annual Office Rimdro. The sacred ritual was organized to offer prayers for peace, prosperity, protection from misfortunes, and the wellbeing of all sentient beings.

The ceremony also served as an occasion to seek blessings for harmony, good health, and the safety of frontline staff, as many of the staff will soon be departing for cordyceps duty.

Staff from Phawan Range Office, Lingmethang Range Office, Ura Range Office, and the headquarters actively took part in the occasion, sharing a meaningful time together in unity and devotion.

May all living beings be blessed, may negativity and misfortunes be washed away, and may peace and happiness prevail for all sentient beings.

Alpine Meadow Improvement✨

Alpine meadows are ecologically significant despite covering 27.43km2 of land in Phrumsengla National Park . They support specialised plant species and provide grazing ground for wildlife and livestock of the local communities. These alpine meadow ecosystem also play a vital role in soil stabilization, water regulation and carbon sequestration acting as natural “sponges” that regulate hydrological cycles in mountain regions. However, encroachment of shrub, tree and other unwanted plant species and climate change have led to the degradation of these fragile ecosystems.
To address these challenges, alpine meadow improvement work has been implemented as part of broader conservation and livelihood enhancement strategies with financial support from Bhutan For Life(BFL). These interventions aim to restore degraded meadows, improve forage quality for wild herbivores and livestock. For this Fiscal Year 2025-2026, a total area of 10.07 ha was cleared as park of alpine meadow improvement work at Zhubung and Zangbuinang under Chungphel Chiwog, Chumey Gewog, Bumthang. The local communities were engaged in executing alpine meadow improvement work with constant supervision and monitoring from the park officials. This is done to benefit local communities in generating income and to gain a sense of ownership.
