A delegation from Haa Dzongkhag comprising Local Government leaders, led by the Dzongkhag Thrizin and Officiating Drungpa, along with Dzongkhag Agriculture Officers and Gewog Extension Officers, undertook an exposure visit to BAIL in Thimphu yesterday. The visit was organized with the objective of strengthening market linkages and exploring collaboration opportunities between BAIL and the farming communities of Haa Dzongkhag.
The exposure visit provided a valuable platform for participants to gain firsthand knowledge of BAIL's operations, processing facilities, and marketing systems. Through presentations and discussions, the delegation learned about market requirements, procurement processes, and opportunities for supplying agricultural produce to institutional buyers. The visit also enabled officials to better understand how value addition and market integration can contribute to sustainable agricultural development and improved livelihoods for farmers.
During the discussions, BAIL expressed its willingness to establish market linkages with farmers from Haa Dzongkhag and assured support in purchasing a range of fruits and vegetables produced in the dzongkhag. The products identified for potential procurement include apples, carrots, radishes, oranges, pineapples, lemons, and passion fruits. This commitment is expected to create reliable market opportunities for local farmers, encourage increased production, and enhance household incomes.
The delegation was also taken on a guided tour of BAIL's processing and production facilities, where participants observed various stages of product handling, quality control, packaging, and value-addition processes. The visit provided practical insights into how agricultural produce is processed and marketed to meet consumer demand and quality standards.
The exposure trip served as an important learning opportunity for both local leaders and agriculture officials, enabling them to identify strategies for strengthening agricultural value chains and promoting market-oriented farming in Haa Dzongkhag. The knowledge and experiences gained from the visit will support ongoing efforts to improve market access, enhance agricultural productivity, and create sustainable income-generating opportunities for farming communities.
The delegation would like to express its sincere gratitude to Dasho Dzongda for providing this valuable opportunity. His unwavering support and commitment to the development of the agriculture sector have enabled local leaders and agriculture officials to gain meaningful exposure and establish important partnerships that will benefit the farmers of Haa Dzongkhag.
The participants also extend their heartfelt appreciation to BAIL for their warm hospitality and generous support throughout the visit. Special thanks are conveyed for the informative presentations, insightful discussions, guided factory tour, and the opportunity to learn more about BAIL's operations and market systems. Such hospitality and willingness to collaborate are highly appreciated and mark the beginning of a promising partnership between BAIL and the farming communities of Haa Dzongkhag.
The visit concluded successfully with renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work together in creating sustainable market opportunities for farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector in Haa Dzongkhag.
