๐Ÿ“ทNationwide musk Deer & Takin Survey

The Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) Musk Deer and Takin Camera Trap Survey Team has successfully completed the camera trapping survey along with Anti-poaching patrol (anti-snarring activities) which commenced in December 2025 and concluded on 29 June 2026.

As part of this important conservation initiative, a total of 41 camera trap stations were strategically established across the (5 km ร— 5 km) survey grid to monitor and document musk deer and Takin within the sanctuary. The extensive field effort involved careful planning, installation, monitoring, and retrieval of camera traps across challenging forest landscapes.

The camera traps captured a remarkable diversity of wildlife species, providing valuable insights into the rich biodiversity and ecological significance of Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary. The findings will contribute to better understanding of species distribution, habitat use, and support future conservation planning and management interventions.

This successful completion reflects the dedication and commitment of the BWS team towards strengthening wildlife research, monitoring, and the long-term conservation of Bhutanโ€™s precious natural heritage.

***Promoting Sustainable Cordyceps Collection through Awareness and Monitoring***

Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary conducted awareness sessions for cordyceps collectors from two geogs, Khoma, Lhuentse and Bumdeling, Trashiyangtse, to enhance understanding and compliance with the Cordyceps Rules and Regulations, 2026.
A total of 22 collectors from Khoma Geog participated in the collection activity from 1st June to 30th June, while 117 collectors from Bumdeling Geog commenced collection from 24th June and will continue until the end of the collection period.

To ensure responsible harvesting practices and effective implementation of the regulations, 10 park officials are actively monitoring collection sites and providing necessary guidance and support to the collectors throughout the collection period.

Through continuous awareness and field monitoring, Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary remains committed to balancing local livelihoods with the conservation and sustainable management of this precious natural resource.

A wildlife rescue and rehabilitation operation was successfully carried out following reports of an Asiatic black bear (๐‘ˆ๐‘Ÿ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘  ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘–๐‘๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘ ) trapped in a wire snare under Serzhong Park Range Office, BWS.
Rescue team promptly responded to the incident and safely immobilized the bear using tranquilization techniques. Upon examination, the bear was found to be in stable condition despite being caught in the snare. After necessary intervention and monitoring, the animal was safely released back into its natural habitat, away from human settlements, ensuring the safety of both the bear and local communities.
This successful rescue highlights the importance of timely reporting and collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation. We would like to thank all individuals and stakeholders involved in the operation for their support and commitment to protecting Bhutan's rich biodiversity.

***Social Forestry Day***
In commemoration of the Coronation Day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, we proudly celebrated Social Forestry Day 2026 under the theme:

"Plant Together, Restore Forever, Secure Our Future."

As part of the celebration, an enrichment plantation program was carried out at Rigsumgoenpa, a vital habitat of Bhutan's National Butterfly, the Ludlowโ€™s Bhutan Swallowtail (Bhutanitis ludlowi).

To enhance and restore the butterfly's habitat, we planted total of 300 seedling comprising its host plant (Aristolochia griffithii) along with important feeding plants such as (Viburnum cylindricum) and (Viburnum erubescens). These species play a crucial role in supporting the life cycle and survival of this rare and endangered butterfly.

๐ŸŒฑ Every plant added to the forest strengthens biodiversity.
Together, let's nurture forests, conserve biodiversity, and build a greener Bhutan.
