09/09/2022- The Textile Museum, Department of Culture, MoHCA in collaboration with the Royal Textile Academy completed the assessment of over 80 thangkas at Zimchu Gomo (Tserim) Lhakhang and Tshulhakhang in Nobgang village under Talo Gewog for conservation and preventive conservation treatment.

𝐀𝐁𝐂 𝐄𝐂𝐂𝐃 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬 Textile Museum

31 children aged 4-5 from ABC Early Childhood Care and Development along with 4 educators visited the Textile Museum as part of their educational tour.

They were taken on a guided tour of the galleries at the Textile Museum to view ‘Thagzo - Textile Weaves of Bhutan’ and ‘Royal Robes: Wangchuck Dynasty’ exhibitions. They visited Weaving Studio to witness the ongoing weaving training on Toedung.

𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐬𝐚 𝐃𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Conservation staff are currently at Gasa to monitor the condition of the 17th Century saddle covers and textile artifacts belonging to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel at Gasa Dzong prior to the annual Tshechhu. The Textile Museum provides technical support for the preservation and conservation of textiles in monastic collections.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 - 𝟑 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

The Textile Museum, DoC conducted a three day workshop from 20 - 22 May which was attended by third year Anthropology students of Royal Thimphu College. Students got an opportunity to learn about the history of textile heritage, techniques of textile heritage preservation and conservation through lectures and hands-on workshops.

A MoU between the Department of Culture (DoC) and RUB (7 colleges including Royal Thimphu College (RTC), which is affiliated to the RUB) was signed on 4 January 2022 with the objective to promote academic and scholarly cooperation between the RUB and DoC, in the areas of cultural heritage and to work towards professionalizing the field of cultural heritage in Bhutan, which will contribute towards to preservation and promotion of culture, and secondly to execute curriculum development, joint research and publication, joint workshop and seminars, internship and on-the-job trainings, joint access to equipment and resources in the areas of cultural heritage.

In the implementation of the MoU, The Textile Museum, DoC offered three day Conservation Science Workshop.

On the first day, a lecture series was conducted on the Textile Heritage and related topics. On the second day, a hands on training was provided by the conservators, on the third day the students were taken on a guided tour to the Textile Museum galleries to view the exhibition by the Chief Curator, Textile Museum.
