The Textile Museum, DoC conducted a three day workshop from 20 - 22 May which was attended by third year Anthropology students of Royal Thimphu College. Students got an opportunity to learn about the history of textile heritage, techniques of textile heritage preservation and conservation through lectures and hands-on workshops.
A MoU between the Department of Culture (DoC) and RUB (7 colleges including Royal Thimphu College (RTC), which is affiliated to the RUB) was signed on 4 January 2022 with the objective to promote academic and scholarly cooperation between the RUB and DoC, in the areas of cultural heritage and to work towards professionalizing the field of cultural heritage in Bhutan, which will contribute towards to preservation and promotion of culture, and secondly to execute curriculum development, joint research and publication, joint workshop and seminars, internship and on-the-job trainings, joint access to equipment and resources in the areas of cultural heritage.
In the implementation of the MoU, The Textile Museum, DoC offered three day Conservation Science Workshop.
On the first day, a lecture series was conducted on the Textile Heritage and related topics. On the second day, a hands on training was provided by the conservators, on the third day the students were taken on a guided tour to the Textile Museum galleries to view the exhibition by the Chief Curator, Textile Museum.
