Here is an exciting opportunity for those adolescents and youth looking forward to acquiring new skills and building their capacity to lead a productive life. Keeping in view the noble vision of His Majesty the King to equip Bhutanese adolescents and youth with 21st-century transferrable skills to prepare them better for the future, the Youth Center Division of the Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with UNICEF will be introducing Adolescent Skilling and Employability (ASE) program through Youth Centers and Youth Friendly Integrated Service Centers from April this year. Considering the disruptive effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the world of work and economy, this program which has already been piloted in some of the South-Asian countries aims to equip Bhutanese youth with digital skills, entrepreneurial mindset and 21st-century skills that shall enhance their creativity, innovation and design thinking. Over the period of one year, the participants of this program shall undergo a 13-module E-course and participate in the competitions of ideas to showcase their innovation and creativity. This entire program would be facilitated through UniSolve, an online digital platform and the participants will be given minimal internet data packages to enable them to attend the online sessions. The participants successfully completing the program will also be awarded certificates.

Happening just now!

In line with the effort of Youth Center Division, DYS, MoE to engage and empower young girls, each Youth Center has set up Young Girls’ Circle to create a safe space for young girls to discuss issues specific to their needs, explore appropriate solutions and help each other. In order to build the capacity of the core members of the circle to ensure quality discussion during the sessions, a 2-day facilitation skills workshop for 18 young girls from four Youth centers in Thimphu (Harmony, Changjiji, Khasadrapchu and Kabesa) has begun today. The main objective of this workshop is to equip the core members of the circle with basic facilitation, peer help and other relevant skills that can enable them to lead the circle in their respective Youth Centers and help each other. The participants are expected to play an active role in leading and facilitating the sessions in their circle after they return to their Youth Centers. They are also expected to interact with their peers in their school and help them whenever necessary.

Within two days, the participants will be introduced to sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence and its impact on the overall development of a child, basic child rights and responsibilities, and protection concerns, peer help skills and other relevant subjects of interest. The sessions are being facilitated by relevant officials from UNFPA, RENEW and DYS. The workshop is part of the activity supported by UNFPA and conducted by Youth Center Division, DYS, MoE.
