Trees, bamboo, and flowering plants were planted at key locationsโ€”from the precincts of Trashigang Dzong and public viewpoints to roadsides, residential areas, and community spacesโ€”strengthening the Dzongkhagโ€™s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable urban beautification.

MERAK, Trashigang โ€” In the windswept highlands of Merak, where mountains separate communities from hospitals and specialist services often lie days away, healthcare arrived at the doorstep of those who need it most.

The Annual Highland/Nomadic Health Camp 2026 brought together a team of specialists and healthcare professionals, transforming distance into access and challenges into opportunities for care.

For elderly patients, it meant receiving specialist consultations without undertaking exhausting journeys. For children, it meant timely medical attention. For families, it meant reassurance that quality healthcare is never out of reach.

From surgery and medicine to eye care, dental services, maternal health, traditional medicine and beyond, the camp delivered comprehensive healthcare services under one roofโ€”right in the heart of the highlands.

More than a medical outreach programme, the camp embodies a national commitment to equity and compassion. It is a reminder that healthcare is not measured by how far people must travel to receive it, but by how far a nation is willing to go to deliver it.

The Honโ€™ble Chairperson of the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC), Dasho Tashi Pem, accompanied by Commissioner Dasho Lobzang Dorji, visited Trashigang Dzongkhag and held an extensive engagement with civil servants of the Dzongkhag.

The visit focused on strengthening dialogue with civil servants while sharing the Commissionโ€™s evolving initiatives and long-term vision for Bhutanโ€™s public service sector. The engagement highlighted the RCSCโ€™s aspiration of building an โ€œ๐—˜๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—˜๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—•๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜†โ€โ€” a forward-looking approach aimed at nurturing a civil service that is innovative, responsive, professional, and citizen-centric.

During the interactive session, civil servants were updated on key reforms, institutional priorities, and strategic directions being undertaken by the Commission to further enhance efficiency, leadership culture, and public service delivery.

Addressing the gathering, the Honโ€™ble Chairperson expressed sincere appreciation to all civil servants for their unwavering dedication and committed service to the Tsa-Wa-Sum, acknowledging the important role played by public servants in advancing national development and strengthening governance.

The engagement also provided a platform for meaningful interaction and open discussion, reinforcing shared responsibility and collective commitment towards a stronger and future-ready civil service.

As part of the continued eastern visit, the Honโ€™ble delegation will travel to Merak and Sakteng over the next two days to further engage with civil servants serving in the highland communities.

There is a kind of knowledge that lives not in books, but in seeds.

Today, the National Biodiversity Centre Bhutan and Trashigang Dzongkhag Administration gathered farmers, scientists, and leaders under one umbrella โ€” not to discuss agriculture in the abstract, but to honour it in the living, breathing, soil-stained particular.

Farmers arrived carrying crop varieties that supermarket shelves have never seen and textbooks have never named. Scientists knelt beside their displays with careful, grateful eyes. And Dasho Dzongdag reminded a gathering โ€” that what grows from this land deserves the same devotion we reserve for anything truly sacred.

Dr. Asta Tamang, Specialist at NBC, delivered a compelling presentation on the Importance of Biodiversity, Agro-biodiversity and Crop Diversity, Conservation and Sustainable Utilisation Efforts in Bhutan โ€” highlighting the urgency of protecting indigenous crop varieties in the face of modern agricultural pressures.

A highlight of the morning was the Opening of the Crop Diversity Exhibition, jointly inaugurated by Dasho Dzongdag and NBC Programme Director Dr. Karma D. Dorji, showcasing rare and unique crop varieties brought by farmers from different Dzongkhags.

In the afternoon, the Evaluation Results of Crop Diversity Displays were announced, followed by the proud moment of the day โ€” the Award of Certificates of Recognition to farmers who exhibited high, unique, and rare crop diversity.

The event concluded with a vibrant Farmer-to-Farmer Seed Exchange and open discussions โ€” reinforcing Bhutanโ€™s grassroots commitment to food sovereignty and biodiversity conservation.

A significant milestone in climate-smart agriculture has been achieved at Olo Dairy Farm with the successful completion of a mega greenhouse constructed on a cost-sharing basis.

Designed primarily for year-round tomato ๐Ÿ… production, the greenhouse marks a bold step toward strengthening local food security and advancing the national vision of self-sufficiency. Beyond increasing production, the initiative is expected to create a reliable and sustainable supply of fresh vegetables throughout the seasons.

The structure was developed with technical backstopping from ADRC, Wengkhar, and proudly stands as the first greenhouse of its kind in Eastern Bhutanโ€”a model of innovation, resilience, and progressive farming.

The Dzongkhag Administration commends all stakeholders and farmers involved in bringing this visionary initiative to life. Such efforts continue to inspire a stronger, greener, and more self-reliant future for our communities.
