The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) is inviting applications for its Conservation Grants and Moses Mapesa Education & Research Grants.

The Conservation Grants support projects and activities that strengthen the sustainability and conservation status of World Heritage properties across Africa.

The Moses Mapesa Education & Research Grants provide financial support to African Master’s and PhD students undertaking research in natural and cultural heritage, with a focus on World Heritage Sites and properties on national Tentative Lists.

These grants reflect AWHF’s continued commitment to protecting Africa’s rich heritage while supporting the next generation of heritage professionals and researchers.

The National Arts Council of Botswana was honoured to attend the official launch of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture, held at the Botswana National Museum.

Funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut, the initiative seeks to strengthen cultural cooperation between Southern Africa and Europe through the co-creation of new heritage narratives that connect communities.

As a key stakeholder in the cultural and creative industries, NACB welcomes initiatives that promote regional collaboration, cultural exchange and the preservation and celebration of our shared heritage.

Together, we continue to shape a sustainable future for the creative sector across Southern Africa.

The National Arts Council of Botswana is proud to celebrate the continued growth of The Visual Epiphany Residency & Okavango Arts Exchange, a visual arts and cultural exchange programme taking place in Maun.

With support from the National Arts Council of Botswana Arts and Culture Grant 2024/25, the project has grown into an international collaboration bringing together local and international artists, educators, students, and creatives. Through public art, cultural exchange, youth engagement, and creative entrepreneurship, the programme continues to make a positive impact in communities.

The National Arts Council of Botswana remains committed to supporting projects that develop talent, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen communities through the arts.

The National Arts Council of Botswana took part in the opening of the Botswana–Namibia Creative Economy Workshop held under the theme β€œPromoting Social Inclusion through the Creative Economy.”

The workshop brings together government leaders, policymakers and creative industry stakeholders to explore ways of strengthening the creative sector as a driver of economic growth, innovation, and social inclusion.

In his remarks, Minister of Sport and Arts, Hon. Jacob Kelebeng, highlighted key initiatives advancing Botswana’s creative industries, including the Cinematograph Bill and the Digital Content Hub, both aimed at creating opportunities and improving the livelihoods of creatives.

The workshop will focus on policy development, access to finance and digital opportunities, social protection for creatives, and stronger cross-sector collaboration to build a more inclusive and sustainable creative economy.

The National Arts Council of Botswana is proud to witness Totang Motoloki’s exhibition at the National Museum.

Totang Motoloki is a visual artist from Goo-Tau, whose practice spans drawing, painting and mixed media. His work is deeply rooted in storytelling, drawing inspiration from the everyday lives of communities. Through mixed media works that incorporate recycled and found materials such as tins, cloth and sand.

Beyond the Scrap stands as a powerful reflection of how the creative sector continues to champion sustainability, innovation and social consciousness by transforming discarded materials into meaningful works of art. The showcase further highlights the important role artists play in shaping conversations around environmental responsibility.

The Board and Management join the family, friends, creative community and the nation at large in mourning the untimely passing of Kgomotso Tshwenyego.

A celebrated actress, author, radio personality, mentor, and community advocate, Mme Tshwenyego made an indelible contribution to Botswana’s creative and cultural landscape. Through her outstanding work in television, film, radio and talent development, she inspired and nurtured generations of artists while championing authentic Botswana storytelling.

Her legacy of excellence, compassion, and service to the creative industry and the community at large will continue to live on in the hearts of many.

Our heartfelt condolences go to family, loved ones and all those whose lives were touched by her remarkable work and presence.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
