From dialogue to action - advancing Botswana’s private sector 🇧🇼

Last week’s Development Partners Round Table brought together voices from government, business, academia, and development partners along with Dr. Farzam Kamalabadi, the Presidential Envoy on International Relations & Economic Development to tackle one central question: How do we unlock Botswana’s full private sector potential?

The UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Wenyan Yang met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dithapelo L. Keorapetse in a courtesy call, where the two leaders discussed possible areas of support and cooperation.

In her remarks, the Resident Coordinator reaffirmed the UN's readiness to support the country across various developmental and governance initiatives. Ms.Wenyan Yang welcomed the continued affirmation of Botswana’s commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations. She highlighted that UN view as a strategic partner in advancing national development objectives. She emphasised the UN’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s development priorities through strengthening institutions and implementing the country’s development strategies. Ms. Yang highlighted ongoing support initiatives. She cited the collaboration with SADC and UNFPA on Sexual and Reproductive Health engagements with Members of Parliament, as well as UNDP’s previous support to Parliament ahead of the National Budget earlier this year. She assured Parliament of the UN’s continued support and encouraged further engagement to identify priority areas for collaboration.

Welcoming the UN delegation, which also included the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Speaker Keorapetse described the United Nations as one of Botswana’s important strategic partners and reiterated Botswana’s firm belief in the UN system as a viable platform for dialogue on global issues despite existing challenges. He noted that Botswana remains committed to the principles and Charter of the United Nations.
