SAFE TRAVELS TO OUR VERY OWN TRAILBLAIZER✈️🇸🇪

Today, Tlokweng District Council Chairperson Hon. Ontiretse Bogatsu flies to Sweden for the International Women in Political Leadership conference with ICLD & SIDA. While there, she will be mentored by a Swedish mayor and benchmark global best practice.

As the first woman to chair Tlokweng District since 2024 and the only female chair among Botswana’s 31 councils, she continues to raise the bar. Her 12-month project is focused on institutionalizing GBV prevention and survivor support systems. That’s leadership with impact.

APWL is proud of you, Chair. Go learn, connect, and come back stronger. Tlokweng and Botswana are behind you all the way 💪🏾

Congratulations to the winners of the UBSRC elections.

Well done to Moono wa Baithuti (UDC) on attaining 12/13 SRC seats, and to Neville Sechele (GS-26, BDP) on his election as UBSRC President.

The AP Women’s League wishes the new SRC a successful term of service to all UB students.

FORWARD, TOGETHER 💜💙

The outcome of this election is not what you worked for, and we acknowledge that with the seriousness it deserves.

But 12 out of 13 seats is a resounding statement; and the one seat that eluded us today does not define this great Movement.

To our Presidential candidate; the one and only Terrance T-minator Sonny, and your team, you carried the mandate with discipline, courage, and conviction. You stood firm under pressure and represented us with pride. We are so proud of you 💜💙

To the incoming SRC President, congratulations. We wish you a successful term.

The work continues…💙💜

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: 1 April 2026

AP WOMEN’S LEAGUE WELCOMES SUSPENSION OF TRANSPORT FARE INCREASE

The Alliance for Progressives Women’s League (APWL) notes and welcomes the decision by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to suspend the recently announced increase in public transport fares.

This decision demonstrates responsiveness to the concerns of ordinary citizens, particularly women, who are disproportionately affected by increases in the cost of living. Public transport remains a critical lifeline for many households, especially for working women, informal traders, and those in rural and peri-urban communities.

While we commend the Ministry for taking this step, we wish to emphasize the importance of inclusive and meaningful stakeholder engagement in policy decisions of this nature. Consultations with the public, transport operators, civil society, and advocacy groups should not be an afterthought, but a foundational step in decision-making processes that directly impact livelihoods.

As the APWL, we strongly advocate for a people-centered approach to governance, one that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and participation. We urge the Ministry to ensure that future adjustments to transport fares are preceded by thorough consultations to avoid unnecessary distress and uncertainty among citizens.

We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect and uplift women and communities across Botswana.

We extend our appreciation to Hon. Tidimalo Thungthung, an Honourable UDC Councilor deployed by the Alliance For Progressives for advocating for the reinstatement of customary court messengers. Your insightful comments highlight the need for efficient dispute resolution and support for citizens navigating the customary court system.

Your commitment to improving justice delivery is commendable. Well done, Hon. Thungthung!

CUSTOMARY COURTS MESSENGERS NEEDED- CLLR THUNGTHUNG

Let us go back to the old system where customary courts had messengers. How can we expect a person to personally serve someone who owes them? That responsibility should rest with the customary court messengers- Councilor Tidimalo Thungthung
