HON. DAVID TSHERE UPDATES MOWANA 1 AND PARWE 2 RESIDENTS ON DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

On Day 3 of his constituency engagements, Minister of Communications and Innovation and Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Hon. David Tshere, visited Mowana 1 and Parwe 2 Kgotla', where residents were updated on major ongoing and planned development projects in Mahalapye West.

Among other updates ; Hon. Tshere informed residents that paving of five access roads in Mahalapye West Constituency will be completed once the constituency receives P10 million CCP funding. The roads being paved with interlocking bricks are:
1. Pavement from Dilaene II to Leetile Health Post (Dimawe I).
2. Pavement from Jehovah's Witness Church to P**a Store (Dimawe II).
3. Pavement from Madiba Route 3 to Tidimalo Kgotla (Tidima).
4. Pavement from Mowana toTshikinyega(Boxhomo).
5. Pavement from Oasis Motel to Thomadithotse Road.

The project commenced on 20th January 2026.

He further highlighted that P12 million from the Road Levy is currently being utilised for ongoing asphalt overlay works and pothole patching on internal roads in Mahalapye.

In addition, Hon. Tshere announced that P1.7 million has been set aside for the installation of solar-powered street lights along the A1 Road, as part of efforts to improve visibility and road safety.

DAY 2
HON. DAVID TSHERE ADDRESSES BOTALAOTE AND TIDIMALO RESIDENTS
Minister of Communications and Innovation and Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Hon. David Tshere, recently engaged residents at Botalaote and Tidimalo Wards respectively.

Hon. Tshere updated residents on matters of crime and public safety, noting progress in the overall reduction of crime while expressing concern over cases of r**e and defilement, which continue to rise.

He called on residents to continue working closely with law-enforcement agencies and community structures to promote safer communities and create an environment conducive to investment, development and social well-being.

Residents were further informed of plans to install surveillance cameras in Mahalapye to strengthen monitoring, support crime-prevention efforts and enhance public safety.

HON. DAVID TSHERE CAUTIONS MAHALAPYE WEST RESIDENTS ABOUT IN COMING EL NINO

Minister for Communications and Innovation also MP for Mahalapye West Hon. David Tshere recently engaged residents of Mahalapye West at the Main Kgotla and Herero Kgotla, sharing updates on key national and local development matters while providing residents with an opportunity to raise issues affecting their communities.

During the meetings, Hon. Tshere urged residents to prepare for the anticipated El Niño conditions, expected between November 2026 and March 2027. He explained that the country is expected to experience below-normal rainfall and maximum temperatures reaching up to 41°C, conditions that could have a significant impact on both crop and livestock production.

He encouraged farmers and the wider community to take the warning seriously and to follow guidance from an appointed advisory team, which has been tasked to advise government so as to minimise the effects of unfavourable weather conditions.

Hon. Tshere emphasised the importance of early preparation, particularly among farming communities, to reduce potential losses and strengthen resilience to the anticipated harsh weather conditions.

The meetings formed part of Hon. Tshere’s continued engagement with communities in Mahalapye West, providing a platform to share Government programmes, development updates and other matters of public interest directly with residents.

REVEREND OTLAADISA OF UCCSA PAYS COURTESY CALL ON MAHALAPYE DISTRICT COMMISSIONER

Reverend Onkarabile Edmond Otlaadisa, the newly transferred pastor of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) in Mahalapye, recently paid a courtesy call to Mahalapye District Commissioner (DC) Mr Ernest Phiri at his office to introduce himself and discuss pressing community concerns. Accompanying the District Commissioner was the District Aids Coordinator Ms Kerobale, District Officer II Ms Malebogo Ramatu and Acting Principal District Officer Development Ms Amantle Kgatusi.

During the meeting, the two discussed a range of issues affecting Mahalapye village, with particular emphasis on gender-based violence (GBV) and drug & substance abuse. Mr Phiri urged the Reverend to deepen the church’s engagement on these matters and to work with civic structures in developing and implementing interventions to protect vulnerable members of the community.

The District Commissioner welcomed Reverend Otlaadisa to Mahalapye and stressed the important role churches play in community mobilisation and prevention efforts. Mr Phiri also reminded the Reverend that the Office of the District Commissioner regularly engages faith leaders through the Ministers Fraternal Association to coordinate responses to social challenges.

Reverend Otlaadisa expressed gratitude for the welcome and assured the District Commissioner that the church in Mahalapye would be available to support interventions, emphasizing the congregation’s readiness to collaborate with local authorities and other stakeholders.

Reverend Otlaadisa assumed leadership of the UCCSA congregation in Mahalapye on 10 June 2026, following the transfer of Reverend Mokweetsi Kgapo to lead the James Good branch in Kanye. The new incumbent arrives from the GaMolopo branch in the Rolong and said he looks forward to working with both church and civic partners to address the village’s needs.

The District Commissioner's office and Reverend Otlaadisa indicated that future coordination will be channelled through the Ministers Fraternal Association, the established forum that brings together clergy and government representatives to plan joint initiatives on issues ranging from social welfare and public health to crime prevention.

Both parties signalled a shared commitment to strengthen partnerships between the church and local government in order to curb GBV, tackle drug and substance abuse, and support community well‑being.

Further meetings and collaborative activities are expected as the Reverend settles into his new role.

FNBB FOUNDATION GIVES KODIBELENG LEARNERS A BOOST WITH SOLAR SCHOOL BAGS

Learners at Kodibeleng Primary School recently received solar-powered school bag packs and pencil cases, courtesy of the FNBB Foundation.

Speaking at the handover, Mahalapye FNB Branch Manager Ms Eugene Tsuro explained that FNB Botswana has committed to donating up to 1% of its after-tax profits annually towards empowering communities, with funds channelled through the FNBB Foundation Trust. She noted that since 2015, the FNBB Foundation has set aside half a million p**a annually, dedicated to improving the livelihoods of learners in remote areas.

The donation package which was donated to all Standard 1,2 and 3 learners included school backpacks fitted with an attached solar panel and a reading lamp. The bags are designed so that as a learner carries the bag to and from school, the panel charges under the sun, storing power to light the lamp for reading during the night.

Acting Chief Education Officer for Shoshong Sub Region, Mr Lesego Ntongana, thanked teachers for their commitment and encouraged learners to look after the bags and put them to good use for learning.

Present at this event were Hon. Moneedi Bagaisamang (MP for Shoshong Constituency), Kgosi Gofaone Khukhwane, Mahalapye District Council Chairperson Hon. Outule Segolame, Hon. Councillor Christopher Nyatsego, District Officer II Ms Malebogo Ramatu, and other dignitaries.
