🍃Learn Today, Sustain Tomorrow 🌱

Thank you to our very own honored leader Kgosi Tawana ll for his dedication to seeing the park thrive.

We continue to explore ways to ensure the park stays open through the floods and are thankful to all who have put in funds, resources and helping hands towards this community project.

We are thankful for all the beautiful faces we get to see everyday 😊, and that the park is becoming a safe space for the community of Maun and those visiting to have, good, clean, family friendly fun.

As more spaces like MEP open up, Maun is coming alive again! Let’s continue to support each other as we bring our little-big town back to her old glory!

A Floody Situation

The 2026 Okavango Delta flood has been one of the largest in recent years. After a prolonged dry period, the return of abundant water is a blessing for our ecosystems and wildlife. At the same time, it has brought significant flooding to many areas, including Maun Education Park.

Although we have only been open for one month, our team has worked tirelessly to keep the park accessible. We initially used sandbags to divert the rising water away from our entrance and walking trails, but what we believe was the final surge of floodwaters from Angola overtopped our defences, flooding the front of the park and cutting off access to several trails and picnic sites.

Adaptation

Closing the park was never an option.
Instead, we adapted. Visitors can now enjoy mokoro rides through the flooded sections, while raised walkways provide access to our dry trails and picnic areas.

It takes a village

With the generous support of Lodge Builders Botswana, Chobe Holdings and Mr. MC Odumetse , who donated in his personal capacity, we received additional sand and the use of a JCB to build a diversion trench that redirects water back towards the river. These efforts have made an enormous difference, and no new floodwater is entering the park.

The Gist

While it will take time for the park to dry out completely, we remain open and are monitoring the situation daily.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us so far. However, our work is not yet done. We are still welcoming assistance in the form of sand, sandbags, fuel, machinery, labour, or financial contributions to help us strengthen our flood defences and restore affected areas.

Every helping hand makes a difference. Together, we will continue building a park that inspires people to learn from nature—even in the face of its greatest challenges.

Celebrating Ranger Day the Junior Ranger way 🌍💚
Today with Maun Educational Park, we hosted Letsholathebe students for a nature trail.
Through Re Jala Peo’s Junior Ranger program, we guide children using:
Head💡→ To know and understand nature
Heart ❤️ → To love and respect it
Hands 🙌 → To protect and take action for it
Because the future of conservation starts with kids who’ve walked the trail, touched the soil, and felt the wild.
Thank you to Maun Educational Park for partnering with us to make Ranger Day unforgettable.
