Highlighting Councilor Candidate: Mrs. Yvonne Codd
While my Mayoral race is of extreme importance to me at this time, I recognize that there are many exceptional candidates vying for leadership positions at City Hall. These are the men and women who, if elected, will ultimately accompany me on this journey of transforming Belize City.
I’ve decided that it is equally important to take time away from meeting delegates to sit with these great candidates, hear their vision for Belize City, and motivate, advise, and encourage them wherever I can.
Today, it is only right that I highlight Mrs. Yvonne Codd.
What stands out to me about Mrs. Codd is that service is not something she has recently discovered, it has been a part of her life for decades.
Interestingly enough, we were recently at an Eastern Caucus meeting at Independence Hall, the very building where she and her husband got married. (Fun fact!)
After the meeting concluded, I noticed Mrs. Codd quietly picking up the cups that others had used and throwing them away. She immediately went into mommy mode, and I looked on in admiration.
It was such a simple thing, but those are the moments that tell you a lot about a person. Selfless traits like these are exactly what we need at City Hall.
Mrs. Yvonne told me about her roots in Eden Site Alley and shared with me her story of more than 40 years of working with children, families, and communities through education, youth development, health, and public service.
She brings something incredibly valuable to this process: experience grounded in people.
I can see us working together to strengthen our communities, create more opportunities for our young people, support our families, and build a City Council that listens to the people and responds to their needs.
I have always advocated for younger candidates and believe strongly in the energy, ideas, and fresh perspectives that young leaders bring to the table. But I also believe in balance.
In this case, experience and seniority can serve as the anchor to a youthful team.
Mrs. Yvonne, thank you for believing in the vision. I welcome you to this journey and wish you all the very best as you seek to serve the people of our great city.
There is always room for good people who are ready to SERVE THE PEOPLE. 💙🤍
