Yesterday I had to narcan my client who decided it would be a good idea to convince his ride to stop on the way to treatment and pick up some dope for one last hurrah, we’ll… he made it to treatment, but with 1 overdose on the way, and once he got there he came to a stark reality that he was now being denied entry due to his drug use-because a treatment centre is not a detox!!
So his driver brought him back to her house and he promised he wouldn’t use there, but unfortunately his addiction was too strong for him to hold his word-and I was called to the residence where I administered 2 shots of naloxone to him.
Once he woke up, I explained to him that he was seconds from leaving us for good and he sat there and cried on the floor. He was extremely grateful for the naloxone shots, but the consequences of his actions caught up quick and now he was on his way out the door to the streets again.
This young man has been in contact with me every few weeks and he really wanted to get clean and into his new life-and he was almost there-but he picked up on his way to treatment and he threw it all away and almost died with 2 overdoses the same day.
Lately, He’s been getting a ride to a park on the edge of town where he sleeps so he can’t get fentanyl cause there’s none around, and then his friend picks him up every morning and he spends the day with her and she drops him back off again to the park-they’ve been doing this for days to get him 72 hrs off street drugs to enter treatment.
Here’s the kicker…. God had a plan 🤗🥰
When I was walking him out of the building last night, he asked to go back to the park cause he wants so bad to get sober he said “JOSEPH IM NOT GIVING UP”….
What I learned in that moment was that he had a bed lined up at creekside detox in the morning for him, and he wanted to go back to the park because he didn’t want to die, he was so scared of himself using he wanted to go sit in complete isolation away from everyone and the world.
I just stood there in utter disbelief at this guy, at the sheer determination to want change…
So I dropped him off at the park, went home and grabbed lawn chairs and some food my wife made for him, and sat with him to make sure he got through the night.
We ordered pizza late and talked all night. The childhood memories, fishing stories, challenges and experiences I heard from this guy was incredible. We talked for hours about what he would want his new life to look like, and how he wants to get his (now folded in half) body back in shape. He cried…
This morning, I’m happy to report that he made it to detox so he can start his journey 😍😍🙌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Please, please, please say a prayer for this young man that the Lord will captivated his heart and set him free of this bo***ge he is in.
I love sitting back and seeing God work
