To raise funds and awareness for women experiencing violence. 💜

On Sept. 19, Mandy Dhillon will set out from Chilliwack around midnight and walk 100 kilometres to Vancouver in just 24 hours. Her route will take her through Abbotsford, Mission, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Coquitlam and Burnaby before reaching Vancouver.

Dhillon says the cause is deeply personal and hopes to raise $55,000 for SARA for Women, which supports women in the Fraser Valley. The journey will conclude Sept. 20 with a community walk in Vancouver, with VPD/Purple Light Nights helping plan the Vancouver portion.

THE PURPLE LIGHTS NIGHTS CAMPAIGN 2026
STAND WITH US AND BRING AWARENESS TO INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE THIS OCTOBER!

WHAT IS PURPLE LIGHTS NIGHTS? Purple Lights Nights (PLN) is an annual campaign held in October led by the Abbotsford & Mission Violence Against Women in Relationships Committee (VAWIR). It honours those who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence, while offering hope and support to those experiencing it. Through events, workshops, and resources, PLN raises awareness, promotes healthy relationships, and connects community members with information about support in the community.

Purple Lights Nights at the 5th Annual Mela Shoukeenan Da 2026 💜

Purple Lights Nights (PLN) was proud to host a community table at this wonderful celebration of culture, community, and women’s empowerment at Heritage Park, Mission.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, connected with us, and learned more about PLN and our mission. 💜

A special thank you to Mahindra Gold & Diamonds, the Presenting Sponsor, for supporting an event that brings our community together.

Together, we can create spaces where women feel seen, supported, and empowered. 💜

Leaving a violent relationship can be one of the most difficult and overwhelming experiences a person faces. Access to the right support can make all the difference.

That's why we're bringing in-person Family Law Centre services to Kamloops and Prince George, while broadening eligibility so more survivors across BC can access free legal representation. We're helping people find safety, stability and a path forward.

Remembering Baliley McCourt 💜

Bailey McCourt was tragically taken from her loved ones far too soon. That was one year ago today.

My heart goes out to Bailey’s family and loved ones. Thank you to all who came out today in Bailey’s memory and to Cupcasions for hosting.

Bailey’s murder inspired my Private Member’s Bill, Bill C-225, now known as Bailey’s Law. Bailey’s Law confronts the epidemic of intimate partner violence. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to sponsor the bill.

When you lead with vulnerability and curiosity instead of authority, people feel heard rather than managed. It shifts the dynamic from a performance to a partnership. The most effective way to cultivate this environment is through intentional listening and consistent validation.

Balwinder Kaur, a mother of two, was fatally stabbed at her home in Abbotsford, B.C., on March 15, 2024. Her husband, Jagpreet Singh, who had arrived in Canada from India just days earlier, has since been convicted of second-degree murder.

This tragedy is another heartbreaking reminder that intimate partner violence can have devastating consequences. Raising awareness, supporting survivors, and speaking out against IPV can help save lives.

May Balwinder be remembered with dignity, and may her loved ones continue to find strength and support.
