The Aylmer Police are noticing an uptick in vehicle entries and car thefts in the areas surrounding Aylmer. We would like to remind everyone to be vigilant in locking their car doors and not leaving vehicles unattended with the keys inside. We would also like anyone who sees any suspicious persons or behaviours to call and report in real time.

Stolen Vehicles/Impaired/Prohibited/Assault/Liquor

Stolen Vehicle – Recovered

A vehicle, previously reported stolen on May 20th has been recovered in Dorchester. On May 28th, APS was contacted by the OPP who had located the vehicle abandon on a street for several days. The matter remains under investigation.

Prohibited Driver

On May 29th, just before 9am, an APS officer on patrol observed a vehicle being driven by a person who was believed to be a prohibited driver. A traffic stop was conducted which confirmed the driver was in fact prohibited from driving as a result of failing to complete the back on track program stemming from an impaired driving charge. As a result, the 48-year-old Aylmer man has been charged with driving while prohibited. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the man will appear in court in July in relation to the charge.

Stolen Vehicle – Recovered

A 2015 Honda was stolen from a Spruce Street parking lot sometime during the evening of May 28th. The vehicle was later recovered, burnt out on Middlemiss Drive in Thames Centre a few hours later. The matter is presently under investigation. Fail to Remain Collision

Overnight on May 28th into the morning of May 29th, a vehicle was parked on Caverly Road when it was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain. The vehicle sustained a broken mirror and significant damage to the driver side of the car. This collision remains under investigation.

Liquor Licence and Control Act Charges

A 19-year-old Malahide man and a 22-year-old Aylmer man have both been charged with being intoxicated in a public place. The charges come after officers located the males in Kinsman Park on May 30th at 0230hrs. The males were located after APS received complaints regarding two males in the area ringing doorbells and causing a disturbance. Both were placed under arrest, and transported back to their respective residences and left in the care of a sober adult. The pair were issued tickets under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

Impaired Driver

On May 31st at 1230am, an APS officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Talbot St W for travelling at 87km/hr in a 50km/hr zone. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected alcohol and conducted a roadside screening test. As a result, the driver failed and was placed under arrest. Tests conducted back at the police station resulted in readings twice the legal limit. As a result, a 30-year-old St Thomas woman has been charged with impaired driving, class g2 licence older having a BAC above zero and speeding. The accused was released from custody on an appearance notice and is required to appear in court in July.

Assault

A 46-year-old Aylmer man has been arrested after he is alleged to have assaulted his landlord during a dispute. APS were called to a residence on June 1st, just after midnight for the dispute which had turned physical. The accused, heavily intoxicated, was arrested and held for a morning court appearance. The victim did not require medical attention.

Media Release

Fail to Stop for School Bus Leads to Impaired Driving Charges

An Aylmer resident is facing multiple charges after failing to stop for a school bus and subsequently being arrested for impaired driving.

On May 26, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., an Aylmer Police Service officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling southbound on John Street approach a northbound school bus that was stopped with its overhead lights activated and stop arm extended.

The driver failed to stop for the school bus and continued past the activated stop sign before eventually coming to a stop. The officer immediately conducted a traffic stop during which, the officer detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening device test was administered, resulting in a “Fail” reading.

The 34 year old Aylmer man was arrested and transported to Aylmer Police Service Headquarters, where further breath testing confirmed the driver was operating a motor vehicle over the legal alcohol limit.

As a result, the accused has been charged with:

Fail to Stop for School Bus
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in July.

Motorcycle Driver Charged in Collision

Aylmer Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Tarry Parkway on Monday, May 18, 2026, at approximately 3:55 p.m.
Police attended the scene and determined that a motorcycle travelling northbound on Tarry Parkway collided with a parked vehicle after attempting to navigate around vehicles parked along the roadway while yielding to oncoming traffic.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old male from Aylmer was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Unsafe Move.

Aylmer Police Investigating Online Fraud

The Aylmer Police Service is investigating a reported online fraud after a resident was contacted through Facebook and advised they had won $3,500.00. The victim subsequently provided banking information and purchased $500.00 in Apple gift cards which were sent to an individual identifying themselves online as “Julie Leach.”
After realizing the incident was fraudulent, the victim attended the Aylmer Police Service to report the matter.

Vehicle Entries on Spruce Street

Overnight on May 19th into May 20th, 2026 several vehicles were either entered or attempted to be entered on Spruce Street West. Several items were taken from various vehicles. APS would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.

Aylmer Police Lay Assault Charge Following School Incident

The Aylmer Police Service has charged a 42-year-old individual following an assault investigation stemming from an incident that occurred at a school event in the Town of Aylmer. On May 20, 2026, police received a report of an altercation between two individuals attending a school function at a local school. During the investigation, police learned that an ongoing personal dispute between the parties escalated into a physical interaction.

As a result of the investigation, 42 years old female from Aylmer has been charged with Assault.

Aylmer Resident Charged with Various Offences

On May 20, 2026 Police were called to a residence after staff reported a resident had become increasingly aggressive and caused damage within the home.
During the incident, property inside the residence was damaged and an employee was struck with a plate that had been thrown during the altercation.
Upon police arrival, the female was located on the roof of the Officers safely negotiated with the female, who was subsequently taken into custody.
During the interaction, police allege the female assaulted a peace officer and uttered threats toward another officer. Police also determined the youth was in possession of a prohibited sharp instrument contrary to previously imposed release conditions.

As a result of the investigation, the female is facing the following charges:
• Two counts of Mischief Under $5,000
• Assault with a Weapon
• Failure to Comply with Undertaking
• Assault Peace Officer
• Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm

Aylmer Police Service Lobby Improvement Project to Enhance Service for Residents

The Aylmer Police Service will begin construction on a significant lobby improvement project starting Monday, May 25, with completion anticipated by August 2026.

This project is focused on enhancing the experience of residents and visitors when accessing in-person police services. The current lobby space is limited in size and does not provide a direct, face-to-face customer service experience for walk-in visitors. The renovations are designed to create a more welcoming, accessible, and community-focused environment for those seeking assistance.

Once completed, the upgraded lobby will:

Double the size of the public lobby space
Provide a more welcoming and comfortable environment for residents and visitors with ample seating and accessibility
Improve accessibility to staff through a dedicated customer service window
Support a more victim-centered and community-oriented policing approach
Enhance the overall delivery of frontline customer service at the station

This project has been made possible in part through a Provincial Victim Support Grant, with the remaining costs funded through development charges. As a result, there will be no impact on the Aylmer Police Service operating budget or municipal tax base.

During construction, residents are encouraged, when possible, to request police assistance by phone and have an officer attend their location rather than attending the station in person.

As work progresses, the public should be aware of the following temporary changes:

The main public entrance will be closed and fenced off for the duration of the project
A temporary public entrance will be available on the south side of the building

The Aylmer Police Service appreciates the patience and understanding of residents as these important improvements are completed in support of better serving the community.

Members of the Aylmer Police Service continue to prioritize positive interactions with youth in the community.

Constable Shaw, alongside Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) worker Deanna, recently attended a track and field event at East Elgin Secondary School. The event provided an opportunity to connect with students, support local youth, and strengthen community relationships in a positive and engaging environment.

The Aylmer Police Service is looking for assistance in locating a stolen truck from overnight. The vehicle is a 2007 red Chevrolet Silverado license plate 812-9HY. Anyone with information is asked to contact APS and reference incident # AY26001262.
