Motor Vehicle Collision

Aylmer Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at Sydenham St E and John St S on September 28th at 145pm. It was learned that a vehicle travelling east on Sydenham stopped, and then proceeded into John St, when it was struck by a southbound vehicle. No injuries were sustained. As a result, a 58-year-old Tillsonburg man has been charged with fail to yield to traffic under the Highway Traffic Act.

Warrant Arrests

A 19-year-old Hanover man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant. The warrant stems from an incident in July where the accused was involved in a dangerous driving investigation and fled from police. The accused was arrested without incident and released on an undertaking with a future court date.
A 73-year-old London woman was arrested on September 30th. The arrest was in relation to an outstanding warrant for assault. She was released on an undertaking with conditions and will appear in court next month.

Theft of Bicycle

On October 1st, Aylmer Police were called to downtown business for a report of a theft of an $800 bicycle. On October 2nd, an APS officer on patrol observed a male on the stolen bike on South St around 730pm. The man was arrested and the bike recovered and returned to the owner. As a result, a 38-year-old Aylmer man has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. He was released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.

Suspended Driver

A 57-year-old London man has been charged after a traffic stop on October 1st at 1020pm. An APS officer on patrol was alerted to a vehicle by the onboard ALPR system. A traffic stop was conducted on Talbot St W where the driver was confirmed to be suspended. Further, there was found to be no insurance on the vehicle and the driver was bound by a provincial offences act probation order for a similar offence. As a result, the man has been charged with driving while under suspension, operating a vehicle without insurance and breach of probation under the Provincial Offences Act. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver will appear in traffic court later next month.

Assault

A female youth has been charged with assault after an incident was reported at a local school. The accused and the victim were known to each other and previously involved in a relationship. As a result, the accused has been charged, released on an undertaking and will appear in youth court in relation to the charge.

Mischief to Optimist Park
On October 3rd, an APS officer on patrol located graffiti and damage in Optimist Park. The matter is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or Aylmer Police.

RIDE
A 55-year-old female is without a licence for 7 days after registering a warn during a RIDE program on October 3rd. APS have conducted several RIDE programs over the last week throughout the town and will continue to do in an effort to enhance road safety.

Community and Youth Connections!

On September 28th, Aylmer Police joined local youth for a game of soccer at Steen Park. Together with the Town of Aylmer, Planet Youth Oxford Elgin St. Thomas and local sponsors, a fun night was had by all with the score ending tied 7 - 7!

Have you seen the new billboard in town?

In partnership with Victim Services Elgin and Mennonite Community Services, a new billboard has been posted through support of the Provincial Victim Support Grant.

Together, the goal is to assist in increasing the ability for police to conduct investigations relating to Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Abuse. Specifically, the aim of making police more approachable for victims from both the local population and Low German community.

Chief Kyle Johnstone says “This project is just one step in building genuine connections with the community we serve. This is yet another example of how our service is able to focus on and respond to the unique and specific needs of our community members”.

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Every year on this day we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors and their families. We also recognize the enduring impacts of the residential schools.

True reconciliation requires listening, learning and acknowledging past and ongoing harms. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that belongs to all of us.

The municipal election is upon us and the Aylmer Police wants to remind tenants and property owners what to do when it comes to displaying election signs.

Under the Municipal Elections Act and Aylmer By-Laws, tenants are allowed to display election signs on their property without the consent of their landlord. However, that only applies to property contained within their lease agreements. Landlords may also have rules in place limiting the size of sign that may displayed.

If the sign is displayed on property that is not within the lease agreement, the landlord or owner may have permission to remove the sign from the property. If that happens, landlords are encouraged to make arrangements to have the sign returned to the candidate; either by dropping it off at the police station, having it returned to town hall or having the candidate come to pick it up.

If you should find a sign on your own property that you did not request, the same arrangements can be made.

Aylmer Police want to remind the public that intentional damage or theft of signs could lead to a criminal charge.

School Bus Investigation Leads to Charges

A 46yr old Aylmer man was charged after Aylmer Police received a report of a vehicle travelling through activated bus lights on Caverly Road on the morning of September 21. The driver was located and charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Motor Vehicle Collision

On the 21st of September at 11:00 a.m. Aylmer Police were called to the area of Talbot Street E for a motor vehicle collision. Through investigation it was determined that a driver was travelling west on Talbot Street. A second vehicle was stopped trying to exit out of a private business driveway. As the vehicle entered the roadway it collided with the vehicle travelling west. Both vehicles had moderate damage and a 30 -yr old Aylmer woman was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. No injuries were reported.

Theft Investigation Leads to Charges

On the evening of the 21st of September, a 16yr old St. Thomas man entered into the Circle K. The male selected 2 cases of Twisted Tea valued at $70 and left without making payment. Through investigation the accused was identified and charged. He was released with a future court date.

Graffiti Done to Skate Park

On the 22nd of September, Aylmer Police were called to Optimist Park to investigate some graffiti done to the skate park. Police located numerous symbols and profane language detailed on the equipment. Town of Aylmer Public Works attended and removed the graffiti. This incident remains under investigation. Vehicle Entries
Between the 23rd and 24th of September, numerous vehicles were entered throughout the town. Aylmer Police were called to the area after suspicious persons were observed. Police conducted extensive searches throughout the area however the suspects were unable to be located. As the investigation continued, police determined an involved vehicle, being a Mazda SUV (DJHZ 396) was used during the thefts and is reported stolen from the Niagara region. This incident remains under investigation. If you have any information or video surveillance that is relevant reference AY26002599.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

On the 24th of September 2026, Aylmer Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. Throughout investigation, the 44yr old male driver was determined to be currently a suspended driver, as well as being on Probation Order under the Provincial Offences Act. Police also located cannabis on the floor of the vehicle. The driver was arrested and released with charges under the Highway Traffic Act, Cannabis Control Act and Provincial Offences Act.

E-Bike Driver Charged

A 21-year-old Aylmer man has been charged after an APS officer observed him operating an E-Bike while consuming an alcoholic beverage. The stop occurred at Elm St and Lawerence Ave just before 8pm on September 27th. As a result, the operator was also administered a roadside alcohol screening test which resulted in a warn. As a result, the driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days. Further, the operator was issued provincial offences notice for consuming alcohol while operating the e-bike.

Youth ages 10–17 are invited to join the Town of Aylmer and Aylmer Police Service for a friendly game of soccer, followed by dinner.
