A collage of memories for the Wildfire 2025 season created by Velma J at CIPI and also a parting gift for our good friend Kelly Sawchuk who spent a better part of his summer keeping us informed regarding the fires and acting as a liaison between SPSA and the communities. Kelly always told it like it was and he was the first to tell us to get the heck out of dodge when the fires approaching Beauval at an alarming rate on July 10th.

Thank you Kelly and thank you Velma for the memories of collaboration, kinship, and bravery of all those who stood their ground and kept Beauval safe and for those who cooked, cleaned, assisted in any way to make sure everything ran smoothly. Thousand tinikis!

**Update: 12:30pm: times changed **

SPSA will be set up in the BDI Extension for 1-4:30pm today and 9am - 4:30pm tomorrow (Thursday)

** Note: we have no idea what will happen if you can’t pick up your check today or tomorrow as this is a SPSA initiative and not a village or EOC one. It would be ideal if we are informed but that’s not always the case.

The highway leading up to ERFN - La Plonge (just past the bridges) is closed due to the condition of the road.

Excessive local traffic has damaged the road and now semis and other vehicles are getting stuck.

As the construction crews repairing the bridge will not be attempting to improve the condition of this road tonight, it is closed until further notice.

Continue to check the SK Highways Hotline for updates.

Today our EOC says “au revoir” to Sydney & Isabelle from the Ontario Incident Management Team - they were part of the team that led the “Beauval Complex” fire since the initial Evac order early July. They’re being replaced by another crew from Ontario for the duration of the fire.

It was a pleasure working with these wonderful ladies as they updated us daily at 3pm with reps from SPSA so we could help keep our community members and region informed. The community gifted the ladies and Operations Commander Bob Hurley with some one of a kind Frank Gunn hide work paintings of wolves and loons.

We will miss you’s and safe travels home!

** Evacuation Lifted **

The evacuation order is officially lifted as of tomorrow August 15th and we have asked SPSA to dispatch a charter bus to Saskatoon tomorrow morning to pick up the last of the evacuees at Travelodge.

Please be packed up and ready to go by 10am. Meet in the lobby downstairs and be ready to depart by 11am.

Thank you all for your patience during this time and our community is ready to welcome everyone home!

The rains have been a blessing these last few days and are already helping calm the fires and smoke down to manageable levels.

We look forward to the wonderful healing rains welcoming our community members home tomorrow.

The EOC meetings and Helpline will now be placed on hold for now unless conditions change. It’s been a pleasure serving you in this capacity!

5:50pm

You may have received an alert for a severe weather warning / tornado watch. If you’re travelling south today be careful as this weather system could be heading southeast towards the highway between Beauval and Green Lake.

The storm could also provide heavy winds so ensure you’re not on the streets when the weather hits: watch out for flying debris.

There is also a high possibility of lightning.

Also be sure to anchor down anything you can in your yard including things like trampolines.

Tiniki and be safe! 🙏🏼

** Fire Update **

For a more detailed update please listen to Mayor Rick Laliberte’s report on CIPI radio.

The wind gusts today have flared up the fires.

The east flank of the Trail Fire near Durocher has been flagged as a concern and is currently being monitored.

No major concerned near Amyot and work continues with ground crews and heavy equipment.

Fire is now 4km south of Canoe River subdivision and crews have been dispatched to protect assets as well as gel the power poles and protect the hwy 155 access.

Ground crews and helicopters continue to work the fire near Lac La Plonge resort village.

HWY 165 to Pinehouse junction - fire has moved east towards junction. Heavy action taking place in trying to slow this progress. Road access remains closed.

Highway 965 from 155 junction to just before Cole Bay: Closed

Highway 165 to Pinehouse Junction: Closed

Highway 918: Closed

Highway 155 from Beauval Forks to Canoe River: Escorted traffic

** Evac Update **

Priority 1 & 2 Evacuation extended to Aug 20 2025.

If any evacuees wish to voluntary return from Saskatoon you may do so on your own or sign up with Alvina at Travelodge and we will determine when and where transportation will be provided.

** EOC Update **
EOC Kitchen will wrap up their services on Aug 13. We would like to thank all the cooks and cook helpers who have helped keep our firefighters and emergency staff well fed during this crisis.

Today they were able to feed Premier Scott Moe and Minister McLeod and his crew as they do their northern tour regarding the wildfires. A traditional meal of moose meat and fish was provided by Dots, Gwen and Patty. Awesome job ladies!

They were also joined by a large crew of Northern Leaders from various communities such as Jans Bay, St Georges Hill, MN-S, etc. From what I hear, great discussion took place. Thank you to all our leaders for voicing their concerns from our northern communities.

EOC Helpline 306-288-1000

Once again we do not monitor highway conditions (only at the time of the EOC meeting) and we have no knowledge of SPSA and Red Cross financial assistance. You will need to make those inquiries on your own. Much appreciated!

EOC Helpline 306-288-1000

Fire Update:

Hot temps and humidity are flaring up fires again as you’ll notice smoke plumes rising.

The Muskeg (Dore) fire has not made much progression (the plumes you see over the river). Much progress has been made to contain and slow this fire and ground crews and helicopter buckets have been on this fire.

The Trail Fire (west flank near Keeley and south of Canoe Lake); Guards continue to be put in place to slow progress of this fire as well work along the roadway from Jans Bay to Canoe Lake to keep it safe so crews can safely get in and out.

Amyot Lake: Hwy 155 is closed temporarily as crews attack flare ups north and south of Amyot along the 155. Traffic is currently stopped and there is no timeline as of the EOC meeting as to when the road traffic will resume.

***Please do not call the EOC hotline for information on highways as the SK highways hotline is available for this purpose.

Fire east of English River and north of La Plonge: Good progress has been made using helicopters and heavy equipment to contain this fire. It’s on lower land so they do not see it progressing further than where it is currently burning.

Helicopters also continue to bucket the La Plonge shoreline to reduce its intensity and slow its progression. This is the fires near Glen/Doreen and Debs cabin following the shoreline.

A new fire startup labeled the Moore Fire is being attacked to stop it from gaining intensity. So far it is responding and has not progressed much from its initial startup area.

The Knee Fire Northwest of Pinehouse: Guards are continuing to be placed as well as replenishing and widening old fire guards. Helis continue to bucket the area especially near the roadways.

** SPSA Checks **

The EOC would once again like to remind everyone that we have nothing to do with the SPSa checks and we do not have an idea as to when they will return to the community to distribute nor do we know if they will be mailed. A call to our EOC helpline will not expedite the process and you will also be met with lack of information on this.

** HWY 165 / La Plonge **

The road remains closed on the 165 and SPSA is also advising that residents do not try to access La Plonge for swimming or camping activities due to the fire situation near the roads. You do not want to end up stuck on the wrong side of a closed road.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Stay safe everyone!

Attached is a photo of the late great Charles Chung when he delivered over $5000 worth of groceries to our EOC. Rest easy Charles, from all your friends at the EOC 💜 🌹 🙏🏼
