Update - August 23, 5:46 p.m.
SMOKE ADVISORY – ACTIVE WILDFIRE

Wildfire GWF058 remains within the Alberta Forest Protection Area and is classified as out of control. Alberta Wildfire is leading and actioning the response to the incident.

The wildfire is approximately 30 hectares in size and is located near the British Columbia border within the Grande Prairie Forest Area, south of Township Road 700 at the end of Range Road 133.

Although the wildfire remains classified as out of control, there has been no significant growth since yesterday.

Alberta Wildfire crews, supported by helicopters, airtankers and heavy equipment, continue to work toward containment and extinguishment.

County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service crews are supporting Alberta Wildfire as needed and remain prepared to assist if additional response is required.

An active wildfire is burning within the Alberta Forest Protection Area, south of Township Road 700 at the end of Range Road 133.

Residents and motorists in the area may see visible smoke.

Alberta Wildfire is on scene responding to the fire. County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service crews are also on scene to assess conditions and support preparedness should additional response be required.

This advisory is being issued to make residents aware of the visible smoke and emergency response activity in the area.
Please avoid the affected area and give emergency crews space to work.

Updates will be provided if conditions change.

We extend our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding members of the Sexsmith Fire Department and Wembley Fire Department who have been awarded Life Saving Certificates by ALTA Paramedic Health (formerly Alberta Health Services EMS). This recognition honours their exemplary actions during a medical emergency at the Sexsmith Fire Station in April 2025.

Your swift response, professionalism, and seamless teamwork exemplify the very highest standards of emergency service. When every second mattered, your dedication and commitment made a meaningful difference.
