Valley Road Upgrades - 24 August 2026

VALLEY ROAD UPGRADES PROJECT

The Town of Botwood wishes to advise residents that construction activities related to the Valley Road Upgrades Project is scheduled to begin the week of August 24, 2026. The project includes replacement of the existing watermain on Water Street/Valley Road, installation of new water services and hydrants, culvert upgrades, and road rehabilitation and paving. The job will start on the south end of town on Water Street just passed the intersection Riverview Road and be completed at the intersection of Parsleys Road and Water Street.
Water Service Disruptions
To complete watermain connections and transfer services to the new watermain, temporary water service interruptions will be required for properties within the construction area.
Residents affected by scheduled water shutdowns will be provided advance notice whenever possible. During service interruptions, residents are encouraged to:
• Store an adequate supply of drinking water for household use.
• Minimize water use immediately following service restoration.
• Run cold-water taps for several minutes if water appears discoloured after service is restored.
The contractor will make every effort to minimize the duration and frequency of water service disruptions.
Road Cross Cuts and Traffic Delays
Construction will require a number of road cross-cuts and trench excavations to facilitate installation of the new watermain, water services, and culverts. These activities may result in:
• Temporary lane reductions, detours, and traffic delays.
• Short-term driveway access restrictions.
• Reduced roadway widths through active work zones.
• Temporary gravel surfaces following trench backfilling until final paving is completed.
Motorists are asked to obey all posted signage, traffic control personnel, and reduced speed limits within the construction area.
Paving Operations
Following completion of underground infrastructure work, road restoration and paving will be undertaken throughout the project limits. Paving activities may require temporary traffic interruptions and restricted roadside parking.
Residents are requested to:
• Avoid parking on streets within the construction area during paving operations.
• Follow all temporary traffic control measures.
• Exercise caution around construction equipment and freshly placed asphalt.
Construction Schedule
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of October 2026. The contractor will maintain local traffic access wherever practical; however, temporary disruptions should be anticipated during active construction periods.
