The Strathcona Regional District is the government body providing services to over 48,000 residents within north central Vancouver Island, Discovery Islands and mainland area inlets, representing four electoral areas, a First Nation community and five member municipalities. The SRD is governed by a 14-member Board of Directors comprised of elected representatives from the City of Campbell River, K

a:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k:tles7et'h' First Nations, the Villages of Gold River, Sayward, Tahsis and Zeballos, and the four unincorporated electoral areas (Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward, Cortes Island, Discovery Islands-Mainland Inlets, and Oyster Bay-Buttle Lake). The Strathcona Regional District respectfully acknowledges that its corporate office and Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex are located on the traditional unceded territory of the Ligʷiłdax̌ʷ people. It is also recognized that the SRD operates within the traditional, treaty and unceded territories of the Ehattesaht / Chinehkint, Homalco, Ka:'yu:'k't'h' / Che: k'tles7et'h’, Klahoose, K’ómoks, Kwiakah, Mowachaht / Muchalaht, Nuchatlaht, Tla’amin, Tlowitsis, We Wai Kai and Wei Wai K*m First Nations. Forrest Berman-Hatch is facilitating this opportunity for the community to help shape hazard planning, with wildfire adaptation being a particular focus. If you have insights or thoughts regarding hazards on Cortes Island, or would like to learn more, we hope to see you there.The workshop includes an update on the development of the new Cortes Island Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan, a conversation on community hazards, and a hazard mapping exercise.

There will be pizza.
No registration required.
