Great news! I know this has been overdue in it’s expected completion date , and has been a major irritant for residents in the immediate neighbourhoods.

Thanks for your patience,

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas 🎅

As my sign says “Thank You”!

I am very happy to have been elected to represent Ward 7 - Beach Grove. It was a great experience and I appreciated your courtesies throughout my campaign. Informing me on your issues and concerns helps me greatly as I prepare to be your councillor.

I send my best to Paul Gaudet and Linda Clark after this energizing campaign.

I am really looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work for Ward 7 and the city at large!

Thank you.

John

I saw this morning in the Guardian that the City of Charlottetown posted its ad to recruit its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). I am happy to see this moving ahead.

I did not see the required qualifications.  This is one of the pressing topics i believe the new council needs to deal with.  We need a great administrator with legitimate experience.

If elected, I look forward to getting involved!

Happy Saturday everyone. Hope you enjoy the weather with your loved ones this sunny afternoon.

As a candidate, I have filled out a few surveys from the media and other groups about my views on the election.

An interesting one was from Fusion Charlottetown. Fusion is a group made up of 18-40 year old citizens who advocate for a better city for our youth. It is great to see their proactive engagement efforts!

I thought you might be interested in their questions and the answers I provided.

Riddhima is a third year upei student. Met her while campaigning and I discussed my ideas and what I could bring to City Council. She was excited to support me.  She offered to join me in some part of my campaigning. She was enthusiastic and helped me to better understand some of the key issues for younger voters.  Thanks Riddhima!

Today is the first of three advance poll days for the municipal election. I trust everyone in Ward 7 - Beach Grove received my green information flyer over the last few days.

Thank you for sharing your concerns and ideas with me.

I sincerely hope you are able to vote. Your support is greatly appreciated!

In this campaign, I have been able to speak with developers and advocates about some of the city’s housing issues. I have also read some interesting news stories about other Canadian cities - many of which are experiencing similar issues to Charlottetown.

Charlottetown is seeing something of a “flight to downtown” - meaning living closer to the downtown core is attractive for lifestyle reasons and lessens the need for automobiles. This trend can also enhance the prospects for a vibrant service economy closer to the city centre.

It makes me wonder then why we are not doing more with certain properties to increase the number of rental units, particularly focused on affordability. An example of this is the property on Allen Street which is currently occupied by a propane storage and distribution centre (see photo). The property owner is not doing anything wrong and I understand is a good corporate citizen.

I believe we could find a way to facilitate a relocation for the propane facility, and turn our collective attention to coming up with an innovative housing solution. The property is central, close to the necessary key services (notably groceries and public transit), and borders the Confederation Trail.

We need to get to work on this and other properties to address our housing issues.

During the campaign, I have been up and down Upton Road numerous times. There is a lot to like about the improvements.

For a main artery, maybe there are a couple of things we could do better. The first thing that strikes me is some simple cleanup along the road on the side that borders the Business Park.

A row of better-cared for trees is needed (and this isn’t Fiona damage).

When you go up to the roundabout where Upton Road and the Bypass meet, the Northeast corner needs a bit of TLC. I am not sure this picture quite captures it, but an important gateway to the city could be better maintained. I am completely impressed by the paved pathway along Upton Road. It’s a great mixed-use pathway that is safe and cost-effective compared to concrete. A small suggestion I would make is to add a few benches to increase its appeal. I could see other pathways in this style being great additions too.

To be fair, I am not sure which government has responsibilities for these issues. If not the city’s, I expect we can work with the provincial government to get it done. ✅

I have heard concerns from residents about bylaw enforcement.

As you know, Bylaws are rules that help us to understand how things work and are put in place to support good neighbourhoods.
If I am elected, I would be an advocate for enforcing the current bylaws. Any changes
in bylaws would need the support of the residents in keeping with our evolving city.

Our neighbourhoods are close to solid business areas and home-based businesses working well in Ward 7. However, there are very legitimate concerns about bylaws that have not been enforced. Your concerns have been noted and if elected I will make every effort to address these issues.
