Destination Dartmouth

Destination Dartmouth Promoting arts, culture & tourism in Dartmouth (Canada's City of Lakes) and Harbour East communities Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Affectionately known as the City of Lakes (because we have 23 of them), Dartmouth is a former city within Halifax Regional Municipality. We're conveniently located between Halifax and Nova Scotia's beautiful Eastern Shore. We're just 20 minutes from the airport and from Dartmouth you have quick access to some of the best beaches in the Maritimes. Dartmouth is home to Atlantic Canada's largest busi

ness park (Burnside), good restaurants, great hiking trails, friendly people... we're just 15 minutes from a working fishing village (Fisherman's Cove in Eastern Passage) and 10 minutes from the Shearwater Aviation Museum. Canada's historic Shubenacadie Canal and a series of lakes run through the city. Lake Banook was the site of the World Junior Canoe Championships in 1989, the first time the event was held outside Europe. In 1997 and in 2009, Lake Banook hosted the Senior World Championship, and in 2001, the World Marathon Championship. Banook Canoe Club placed 1st at Nationals in 1992 and in 2008. The club placed 2nd in 2009 and 2010. Dartmouth is well-known for its shopping, including Downtown Dartmouth, Mic Mac Mall and Dartmouth Crossing. Alderney Landing is our waterfront icon - a bustling farmers / craft market (Saturday and Sunday mornings), art gallery and theatre. The Nova Scotia Black Cultural Centre is located in nearby Cherrybrook, and if it's hockey you're interested in, check out the Sydney Crosby display case at Cole Harbour Place. There's a whole lot more... so drop by, say Hi, stay a while and.... Discover Dartmouth!
