Dawson City Music Festival Week is Here!

The City of Dawson is proud to continue our partnership with the Dawson City Music Festival - DCMF in 2026.

Did you know the City and DCMF have a signed Memorandum of Understanding (2025–2028) that recognizes and supports the delivery of this incredible event? Through this partnership, the City provides access to Minto Park, temporary festival camping, storage space, equipment and logistical support, and festival-related bylaw variances. Together, the City and DCMF work to ensure the festival remains vibrant, well-supported, and successful for years to come.

What can residents expect this week?
• Increased activity in and around Minto Park as festival preparations and events take place.
• Extended noise bylaw hours during festival nights, with music programming permitted until 2:00 a.m.
• Temporary festival camping at Crocus Bluff Park for attendees.
• Additional equipment, infrastructure, and logistical support provided by the City to help deliver a safe and successful festival.

Our partnership with DCMF reflects the City's commitment to fostering arts, culture, tourism, and community spirit in Dawson.
We appreciate the work of DCMF staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community members who help make this event possible.

We hope you'll join us in attending and welcoming another exciting Dawson City Music Festival! For more information about the event, visit the DCMF website (link in comments) or their page (linked in this post).

See you at the festival!

Cable Infrastructure Decommissioning Work Beginning

The City of Dawson advises residents that work to remove the City's cable television infrastructure is beginning today and will continue in the upcoming weeks.

Residents can expect to see our contractor, Moving Mountains, working on utility poles throughout town removing cable infrastructure.

As part of this work, we will also be removing cable connections from homes and businesses. This will involve accessing the exterior of buildings to detach cable lines and remove attachments associated with the former City cable system.

No entry into homes or businesses is required. City-owned cable infrastructure extends to the cable connection box (NID) mounted on the exterior of any building. Any wiring beyond that point, including wiring inside the building, is private property and the responsibility of the property owner to dispose of, should they wish.

The City appreciates residents' patience and cooperation as this work is completed. Please use caution around active work areas and follow any directions provided by work crews.

City-operated cable service was discontinued on May 31, 2026. The removal of this infrastructure will reduce ongoing municipal costs, eliminate liabilities, and allow utility poles to be removed.

Should you have any questions or concerns around this work, reach out to us at 867-993-7400 or [email protected].

Thank you for your cooperation.

New wayfinding signage is being painted across Dawson City to help residents and visitors easily navigate key locations around town.

Featuring detailed maps and location markers, these signs can now be found at several popular spots, including Victory Garden, Minto Park, Waterfront Park, the Confluence, the Visitor Information Centre, and Diamond Tooth Gerties Parkette.

This project is part of the City of Dawson’s Downtown Revitalization Plan, which aims to enhance the overall look and functionality of the downtown core.

Work at the Gerties Parkette is expected later this summer, with additional initiatives being considered for the future related to Downtown Revitilization.

A link to the full plan can be found in the comments.

We are grateful to live on the Traditional Territory of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and recognize their enduring connection to this land and their important role in our community.

Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn, celebrate, and participate in National Indigenous Peoples Day.

🪶National Indigenous Peoples Day is June 21!
Come and celebrate the day with us. We invite you to join us from 11:00 am - 2:15 pm at Äłät Nëhëjël (TH Hall) and the TH Gazebo.

The festivities will include a sacred fire, storytelling, hand games, and performances by the Hän Singers, Uncle Jimmy and the Hammerstones, the Dawson City Fiddlers and more!

Everyone is welcome to attend. 🌸

Every year we feature a different Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in family for National Indigenous Peoples Day. We are very excited that this year we had the opportunity to photograph many members of the Taylor family! Mähsį cho Taylors for doing us the honour of coming together for this years poster.
