Back to School - Right Around the Corner!

In a couple weeks, school zones will be back in effect! In Drayton Valley, the speed limit in school zones is 30 KM/H, from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, on school days.

During the first few days kids will be excited and may not be paying attention to the traffic. The following are some driving tips to help keep children safe:

• Examine the road ahead an obey posted speed limits. Always be prepared to slow down or stop.
• Do not drive while distracted.
• Use caution when approaching intersections or crosswalks. Parked or stopped vehicles may hide a pedestrian.
• Watch for school safety patrollers and stop as directed.
• Be very cautious in parking lots or when backing out of a parking stall or driveway.
• Watch for kids between parked vehicles and on the sidewalk. They may dash out into the street after a friend or toy.
• Always stop when approaching a school bus with red lights flashing
