Roger Alexander Sitlington
1959 - 2026

Suddenly at his home in Warwick, Ontario, Roger Sitlington passed away at the age of 67. He is Reunited with his wife Susan (Webb) , who passed in 2022.

Dear father of Sean (Lisa), and Laura (Trevor), and beloved Grandpa to Baileigh, Sawyer, Aubrey, Bryson, Olivia and Beau.

Uncle to Melissa and Christopher.

Roger is survived by his siblings Robert (Rosanne) Sitlington, Brenda (Sam) Breyer, Brian (Denise) Sitlington, and brother-in-law Bill (Peggy) Webb.

Family was everything to Roger, and he loved spending time with his Grandkids. Whether it was driving them to sports or appointments, or Sunday hangouts at the farm, he was happiest when he had the kids nearby to tease.

He was a master of his Trade, holding the highest of tickets and a reputation that resulted in him being sought out for special jobs long after his retirement.

He loved to bake and will forever be famous for his butter tarts.

Roger was also big on community. He raised his family in the same community, and the same house, that he grew up in.

He proudly served 42 years of service with the Warwick Fire Department.

He could always be found at the Pancake breakfasts, or having his daily morning coffee with his friends and neighbours.

Roger was always quick to help out someone needing a favour - accepting only a ThankYou as his payment.

Tough as they come, Roger was truly a great man who will be missed by many.

Friends are welcome to join the Sitlington family in honouring and celebrating Roger's life.

Today is our annual Family Day at the DEFD Firehall—a day dedicated to recognizing the families who stand behind our volunteer firefighters.

On-call departments like ours, serving many communities, depend on a reliable and dedicated group of people who are willing to answer the call, day or night.

Our members give countless hours of their time, attending emergency calls as well as training sessions in the evenings and on weekends.

But that dedication doesn’t belong to the individual firefighter alone. The success of our department is made possible in large part by the support and understanding of each member’s family.

We all know that it isn’t always easy.

Imagine your family getting ready to head out for an activity when, suddenly, Mom or Dad gets the call. In an instant, that anticipated trip to the movies, skating rink, swimming pool, grandparents’ house, or even a friend’s birthday party has to take a back seat.

There is no “in a little while.” When the call comes, our members have to go—right now.

We recognize and deeply value the children, spouses, partners, and significant others who sometimes get the “crappy end of the stick” because their loved one has chosen to serve and protect the people and property in our community.

Family Day is just a small token of appreciation for those families and the many little sacrifices they make throughout the year. Their patience, understanding, and support are an important part of what allows our firefighters to do what they do.

We are also incredibly grateful for the support we receive from many local businesses. This year, Circle K in Thamesville generously donated goods so we could provide the kids with slushies just like the ones they get at the store.

It’s a small gesture, but it helps make Family Day fun for all —and it’s another great example of the community spirit that makes our department and our community so strong.

With the extreme heat forecasted this week and as the combines get ready to roll to the field, please take a few extra minutes to make sure your machine is clean of dust and straw buildups, have more than one charged fire extinguisher, do not drive and low clearance vehicle like a pick-up trucks into the field. Do not throw cigarette buts into the field.
A bit of preventative maintenance my save you a lot of heartache and financial loss.
Fire reacts very differently in extreme heat, if a fire starts, get out of the fields immediately, equipment can be replaced...lives cannot.

Captain L BERGSMA & Firefighter M PEGG joined fire service members from near and far at the facilities of Preferred Towing on Indian Road in Sarnia for training on motor vehicle incidents involving heavy trucks and in particular the important role heavy recovery (tow trucks) play in the rescue of persons trapped in vehicles that need to be extricated.

The training helped firefighters be aware of how we would work with, interact on scene, the basic capabilities and when to call for assistance from heavy tow operators. It was a great opportunity.

This is just one (but not at all the only) example of the dedication the members of your fire department apply to protecting the community, residents and visitors. Year after year your firefighters attend training sessions like this on weekends and evenings.

This is above and beyond the quickly approaching 200 hours of training (in person and theoretical self-study) firefighters today must commit to.

Join us on July 18, 2026, for the First Responder Spousal Support Day — a day created to support, encourage, and reconnect those who spend so much time supporting others.
