As I reflect on the past six weeks of campaigning, it is apparent that, regardless of the current Mayor’s comments, Fredericton needs change.
Everyone who heard those remarks assumed they were directed at the mayoral race and a slight toward one competitor. I did not.
From the outset of my campaign, and on all of my signs, I have stated clearly: “Fresh Ideas, Real Change.” I always felt the slight was directed at me. Yes, I’m an outsider, and no, I’ve never been in municipal politics, but I do know how this city operates and what needs to change. I’ve seen up close the need for better governance, more transparency and accountability, and a desperate need for better housing resources for all people.
This has been the experience of a lifetime. I have met so many wonderful people, both in Ward 6 and throughout the city, and we have had great conversations about what needs to be done.
To my team, all of whom I won’t name for fear of forgetting someone: your dedication, spirit, and commitment to the goal have been nothing short of amazing. With elections, nothing is guaranteed, but win or lose, we showed up and made a difference. Thank you just doesn’t seem enough.
Tomorrow is election day, and regardless of your choice, I urge everyone to exercise the right that women and men around the world have died for.
Vote.
