One of the most important parts of my job as your MLA is bringing your voice to the Manitoba Legislature.

Over the past several years, I have heard from farmers, acreage owners, business owners, and families across Interlake–Gimli and Manitoba who are concerned about what happens when criminals trespass onto private property and then attempt to sue property owners for injuries they suffer while committing a crime or with the intent of committing a crime.

Today, I brought Bill 210, The Criminal Trespassers Act and Amendments to The Occupiers’ Liability Act, forward for debate in the Manitoba Legislature.

This common-sense legislation would help protect property owners from civil lawsuits when someone enters their property without permission with the intention of committing a crime.

I first introduced this legislation last session because it reflected concerns I was hearing directly from Manitobans. Those concerns have not gone away, and neither has my commitment to addressing them.

Whether it is protecting property rights, standing up for rural Manitoba, or ensuring the voices of Interlake–Gimli residents are heard at the Legislature, I will continue to bring forward the issues that matter to you.

It’s good to see the conversation around personal care home spaces continuing.

But this work did not start today.

The hard work began years ago, with the necessary Treasury Board and Cabinet approval taking place before the September 2023 announcement. That work culminated in the announcement of new personal care home spaces for three communities including Arborg was paused by the NDP government and is finally moving forward once again.

As your Progressive Conservative MLA for Interlake–Gimli, I was proud to be part of that initial work and to advocate for the needs of our seniors and families across the region.

These projects were more than announcements. The work had already been done and the funding was in place to move them forward.

Our seniors and their families have been waiting long enough. They deserve to see these commitments become actual spaces where people can receive quality care close to home.

I’ll continue to push for the Interlake and make sure the work we started is not forgotten or paused again.

The Town of Arborg is excited to be announced as one of four communities in the IERHA region who will be receiving new personal care homes. Mayor Peter Dueck and Councillor Donna Gislason as well as members of the Arborg Seniors Housing Corporation were on hand in Niverville for the announcement made by Long-Term Care Minister Scott Johnston.
