The race is on! The candidates are declared and there will be a number of new faces on council.

Ward One: Will be new, either Randy McClinchey, Chris Vanderydt or Sarah Nicholson
Ward Two: Acclaimed-Dave Maguire
Ward Three: Will be new, Acclaimed-Shawn Dickey
Ward Four: Will be new, either Dave McLean or DJ Pugh
Ward Five: Will be new, either Suzanne Shea or Jim Hansen
Ward Six: Acclaimed-Dave Marsh
Ward Seven: Will be new, Randy Shaw or Jeffrey Girling

That means that 5 of 7 council seats will be filled with a new candidate and almost all of them have never served on a municipal council.

It will be very important to have experienced leadership at this council. Mayor Cook and I have a proven track record of leadership and team building, as proven during this last term. We need to keep our forward momentum going to ensure that Lambton Shores remains strong and focused on the future.

No doubt this is an exciting slate of potential candidates. There are many young new faces with fresh ideas! However, we need solid, proven leadership to guide this new group into the future to make sure that Lambton Shores remains one of the best places to live in the world!

As the election unfolds I will have more to say about many topics, but for now I urge you to listen carefully, think critically, and above all else, vote!

I will have signs available shortly, contact me with your name and address and we will get one out to you!

I returned late yesterday from a productive AMO conference in Ottawa. We had great conversations with our peers, our MPP's and attended many informative sessions. Mayor Cook and I along with Mayors and Council members from South Huron, Lucan Biddulph, North Middlesex and Bluewater sat down with the Ministry of Health to advocate for preservation of emergency services, expansion of walk in clinics and attaching patients to primary care physicians. Part of ongoing discussions that we have been partnered on for the last year.

I started seriously road biking in March, and then a month or so ago I picked up a gravel bike. I have been putting hundreds of km’s on both bikes almost exclusively on Lambton Shores roads and I can say that we are absolutely blessed with outdoor recreation opportunities! Sometimes being local we take for granted where we live. I was riding this morning with a friend from Toronto and I mentioned this. His response was “that’s why we plan to retire here!” And that sums it up for me! Happy to have always been here!

I’m very proud of our hard working ByLaw enforcement officers!

This summer has been off to an incredibly busy start and our seasonal by-law staff have been there every step of the way. We think it's important to not only recognize their work so far, but to share some of the important things they contribute to our communities throughout the summer season.

When people think of municipal by-law, parking enforcement is often the first thing that comes to mind. And it's an important job to ensure our roads, neighbourhoods, and emergency access routes are safe and accessible. But it's only one part of what our seasonal by-law team does each day.

Throughout the summer, they work alongside Beach Patrol to reunite lost children with their families at Grand Bend Beach, they respond to calls for service from residents, they assist emergency services when needed, they help educate visitors about local by-laws, they help address community concerns, and... yes, they often have to write tickets for by-law infractions.

Ultimately, they work hard to keep Lambton Shores safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. Their work often requires professionalism, patience, and a commitment to serving both residents and the thousands of visitors who come to enjoy everything Lambton Shores has to offer.

A big thank you to our seasonal by-law staff for everything you have done so far, and for everything you will do in the months ahead. Your dedication doesn't go unnoticed and we're grateful for the important role you play in our communities all summer long.

A huge thank you to our Grand Bend Beach Patrol, who made 32 rescues yesterday alone. The weather was hot, the beach was busy, and Lake Huron gave us a fast and fierce storm… and through it all, their professionalism and skills were on full display.

If you’re headed to Grand Bend Beach this summer, remember that Beach Patrol guards a designated swim area at the main and north beach. Be aware of changing weather and water conditions and always keep a close eye on children.

Thank you again to our team of lifeguards for everything they do to keep Grand Bend Beach a safe place for everyone.
