Fire hydrant, valve chamber, and more this week on Elm Street!

Crews kept up steady progress east of Mountain Street, installing the new watermain, sanitary lateral connections, water service connections, a water valve chamber, and a new fire hydrant as work heads toward Main Street East.

Next week: work continues east of Mountain Street, with watermain and service connections advancing toward Main Street East.

Heads up: temporary driveway closures may pop up near TD Bank and GBF Plaza as installation continues. Affected businesses will get advance notice before anything changes.

Traffic: single-lane closure with alternating two-way traffic, plus paid duty police and flag persons keeping things moving safely near Main St. E.

While construction continues, Downtown Grimsby is open and busy:

Big progress this week! 🎉

Watermain and service installation on Elm Street west of Mountain Street is now complete, aside from final testing, connections, and restoration. Crews have shifted east of Mountain Street and are now working toward Main Street East.

📅 Next week: Construction continues on Elm Street between Mountain Street and Main Street East, with a section of watermain also being completed in the Balsam Lane parking lot.

🚦 Traffic impacts:
• Single-lane closure with alternating two-way traffic
• Police and flag persons will be on-site at Elm Street and Mountain Street to help keep traffic moving safely
• No detours are required

While construction continues, Downtown Grimsby is open and there's plenty happening:

🎟️ Construction Passport (until Sept. 30)

Here's where we're working next week! 🚧

Crews will focus on Elm Street between Mountain Street and Main Street East.

What you need to know:

☀️ Daytime work only
🚦 Alternating one-way traffic with traffic control in place
✅ No detours needed
👮 Extra police presence stays in the area near Elm/Mountain until the work moves safely clear of the intersection

Reminder: no construction happening on Monday for the Civic Holiday, and work resumes Tuesday, August 4.

Another week of progress on Downtown Reimagined 👷

Crews are continuing watermain, sanitary lateral and hydrant replacement on Elm Street between Forty Mile Creek and Mountain Street. Next up, crews will shift east to begin work between Mountain Street and Main Street East, while the Elm/Mountain intersection is temporarily skipped.

📅 Reminder: There will be no construction on Monday for the Civic Holiday. Crews return Tuesday, August 4.

Crews wrap up on Elm Street west of Mountain, then shift east, skipping the Elm/Mountain intersection to start watermain work between Mountain Street and Main Street.

🌧️ Rain didn’t slow down the Downtown Reimagined crew this week!

Watermain installation kept moving between Forty Mile Creek and Mountain Street, with sanitary service connections also being swapped out in that stretch, flagged during the Town’s annual CCTV sewer inspection.

Here’s what’s coming up:
🔧 Crews finish the Elm St stretch west of Mountain, then jump to the Mountain St to Main St section for the next round of watermain work
🚧 Sanitary service connections flagged from the CCTV inspection get replaced in that new section too
🎟️ Construction Passport – live through September 30
📚 Construction StoryWalk – running until August 28

🚧 Heads up if you're driving through downtown next week!

Starting July 20, crews shift to the Elm Street stretch between Gibson St and Mountain St, so you'll see the work zone move a little further down the block.

⏱️ Brief, intermittent slowdowns possible from moving equipment
