Parks, Recreation & Trails of Algonquin Highlands The Haliburton Highlands is also home to many of the best water trails and hiking trails in Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Region.

Here you can find countless opportunities to canoe, camp, hike, snowshoe, ski, snowmobile, ATV, fish, hunt, cottage or just relax and take in the scenery. The Township of Algonquin Highlands manages over 38 km of hiking trails, 26 km of nordic ski trails, hundreds of campsites, portages, area lakes and canoe routes. Since 2002 we’ve been successfully working to preserve, protect and promote our outdoor and natural recreational opportunities through a proactive, sustainable management approach. The Township works in partnership with all stakeholders including the Townships of Lake of Bays, Minden Hills, the County of Haliburton and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. DORSET SCENIC LOOKOUT TOWER: It's almost time, friends! The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower will open for the 2026 season this Friday, May 15. Come and experience one of the most breath-taking vistas in Ontario cottage country! If you've never ascended the Tower before, make 2026 the year you do!

Season passes are available, and are less than $30 per household for the year!

The Township of Algonquin Highlands is seeking applications from qualified persons for the position of Trail Technician/By-Law Officer!

Reporting to the Trails Coordinator, the Trail Technician/By-Law Officer assists the Trails Division with the operation and maintenance of the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails (Frost Centre and Poker Lakes canoe route areas), hiking trails and the Frost Centre ski trails.

This position is ideal for those who love to work outdoors!

SKI TRAILS CLOSED: Please note the ski trails at the Frost Centre are now closed for the season, but what a season it was! Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy some classic cross-country skiing this winter!
