Premier Houston’s response is getting international attention for a reason.

The message is clear: Nova Scotia must be stronger, more self-reliant, and ready to lead.

That means developing our own energy, responsibly growing our natural resources with world-class environmental safeguards, and opening new markets for Nova Scotian goods and services.

This is how we protect our future.

Today marks another major milestone in our work to train more doctors for rural communities across Nova Scotia.

Medical students at the Cape Breton Medical Campus are starting classes in the new state-of-the-art Medical Sciences Building. This facility will train doctors for rural Nova Scotia for generations to come.

While construction was underway, our inaugural cohort of 30 students began their studies last August at the former NSCC campus. Today, 30 new first-year students joined them as the Class of 2029 moves into second year, doubling the number of students attending CBMC.

We are ensuring rural Nova Scotians have reliable access to healthcare close to home. By training doctors in Cape Breton, we are building a stronger pipeline of physicians committed to serving our rural communities. This new building is a critical step toward better care for families across Nova Scotia.

Please join me in congratulating these amazing students, and let’s wish them the very best as they continue their studies!

We want our young people to build their careers and their lives right here in Nova Scotia.

If you are under 30 and work in an eligible trade, nursing position, or film occupation, the MOST program refunds your provincial income tax on your first $50,000 earned every single year until you turn 30.

That puts thousands of hard-earned dollars back in your pocket year after year to help pay for groceries, bills, or a down payment on a home.

It is our way of helping young workers get a strong start while filling critical jobs across our province.

More Nova Scotia seniors have a safe, comfortable, and modern place to call home with the opening of Adeline Hall in Bedford.

This new facility features 144 single resident rooms, each with a private washroom. More than 1,300 of the 5,700 new and replaced long-term care rooms we are building across the province are now open, with thousands more on the way.

20 healthcare workers and their families in Bridgewater are now living in new townhouses that are officially complete and fully occupied.

These new homes give doctors, nurses, and medical staff safe places to live right in Bridgewater with manageable rents. By building homes specifically for healthcare workers, we are making it easier to recruit new medical professionals to Nova Scotia and keep them here for the long run so families get the care they need.

This is all part of our plan to build more housing across Nova Scotia and ensure our rural communities have access to the care they need.
There is more work to do, and our government will continue to work hard to recruit and train more healthcare professionals.

GOOD NEWS: We are launching a new police billing model that will make policing more affordable for municipalities, and keep Nova Scotians safer.

This new model helps public safety funding go further. It expands our police presence while freeing up local municipal dollars to reinvest directly into priorities like mental health response, crime prevention, and community safety planning to address crime before it happens and keep Nova Scotians safe.

With this change, no municipality will see an increase in what they pay back to the province for policing, and most will even save money. With those savings, municipalities and towns can reinvest that money into public safety initiatives that benefit all law-abiding, hard-working Nova Scotians everyday.
