🔋National Battery Recycling Day – Keep batteries out of the bin!🔋

This fire-damaged recycling facility - Scotia Recycling in Kentville is a reminder of why batteries should NEVER go in the garbage or blue bags. ❌♻️ Batteries can spark and cause dangerous fires! 🚨

Instead, recycle them safely at a drop-off location near you:
📍 North End Building Supplies, Port Hood
📍 Strathlorne Municipal Recycling Facility
📍 École NDA, Chéticamp
📍 Brook Village Grocery
📍 Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre

Protect our recycling facilities, workers, and environment by disposing of batteries the right way.

Our friends in the Municipality of the County of Inverness got Santa and the Grinch to help them spread an important message—no littering!

Santa sees everything—including litter! 👀🎅
Don’t be like the Grinch—throwing trash on the ground is a surefire way to land on the naughty list. Keep our streets clean this holiday season, and let’s make sure we’re all on the nice list! 🌍✨

When enticed by the smell of something to eat, bears will overturn garbage cans, green carts and bird feeders, break into buildings or vehicles, and damage crops, orchards and beehives. If a bear is successful at obtaining food, it will continue to return, and in the process will become increasingly less afraid of people.

Here are some tips on avoiding bears:

- Store garbage indoors or in garbage boxes until collection day.

- Keep garbage containers away from dense forest cover.

- Keep barbecue grills clean and free of grease. The smell of animal fat and barbecue sauce may attract a hungry bear.

- Never put meat, fish, bones or seafood shells a backyard compost. Turn compost often to prevent odours and hasten decomposition. Apply lime to reduce odour.

Check out what they've been up to at L'Arche!♻️

The Municipality of the County of Inverness recently partnered with L'Arche Cape Breton Community to divert 40 wood pallets from landfill and create a beautiful and functional wooden table.

Our WNN reporter caught up with the municipality's Reuse and Diversion Lead, Shannon MacLean, to learn more about how they worked with community members to make waste diversion more meaningful.
