Town of Fogo Island The largest offshore island in Newfoundland, Fogo Island is home to 11 communities, each with their own unique culture and heritage.

The Town of Fogo Island was officially created on March 01, 2011 by the amalgamation of four existing Towns and one Regional Council.

Fogo Island is rated as VERY HIGH on the Fire Index.

The threat of a wildfire is very high. Access to forested areas may be closed.
EXTREME CAUTION is required for any activity on forested land (e.g. ATV use, operating machinery).
OPEN FIRES AND OUTDOOR BURNING ARE BANNED.
Permits to Burn are CANCELLED.

Thursday, June 4: The Fire Weather Index is high and very high for much of the Island of Newfoundland today.

Check the Fire Weather Index map at https://www.gov.nl.ca/fal/public-education/forestry/forest-fires/fire-hazard-map/ for full details.

Permits to Burn brush and other materials are invalid. All outdoor fires, including campfires, are banned where the Fire Weather Index is very high.

Fogo Island is rated a HIGH on the Fire Index.

The threat of a wildfire is increasing.
EXTREME CAUTION should be used during any activity on forested land (e.g. ATV use, operating machinery).
Permits to Burn are CANCELLED.
Open fires (e.g. campfires) within 300 metres of forested land are permitted under CONDITIONS.

Wednesday, June 3: The Fire Weather Index is very high (orange) in an area of Labrador and high (yellow) in some areas of Newfoundland and Labrador today.

Check the Fire Weather Index map at https://www.gov.nl.ca/fal/public-education/forestry/forest-fires/fire-hazard-map/ for full details. Burn permits are invalid in areas where the Fire Weather Index is high and very high.
