Opening day at AMO Conference opens woth great discussions and information that helps guide and shape the municipal government's environment.
Enjoying this session about energy and its ongoing transition. The integrated energy system we have in Ontario is playing a critical role in its future planning just as much as it is in servicing communities, our homes and more. This panel conversation with Chris Hadfield (deemed Mayor of the Space Station πŸ˜ƒ) is eye-opening offering clear insight into how all three levels of government have important roles to play both collectively and individually..
The importance of informing and understanding how and what energy is and how it used from resources to its delivery..

Community well-being is not something to be taken for granted. It takes work and many hands to shape and sustain. Bringing key partners and players into the community circle is critical.
The resources are often closer than you might imagine and all it takes is sharing that connection and contact which can in turn make the difference of a lifetime.

Talk early, talk often. πŸ’¬

As our communities move deeper into the nomination period for this year's municipal elections, I wanted to offer congratulations to all those individuals who have already filed their intention to run for office. Thank you for putting your name forward and your willingness to serve your community for the greater good.

To our voters and our candidates, remember that on the campaign trail, it is not solely about politics. It is about community, kindness and making people feel heard and valued.

This is important to keep in mind from both perspectives as a voter and a candidate. Voters need representation and they need to put value and time into acknowledging those candidates for voluntarily stepping up to compete for a role on council where voters themselves are not able to or do not desire to do so. I offer respect for those candidates aspiring to those roles. Thank you for committing your energy, excitement and passion for the communities you call home.

Alot has been said about the negativity and personal toll that often comes with public service. While that aspect is real and can be challenging in more extreme situations, however do not let that overshadow the greater good and majority of times where service to the community truly outshines all in the bigger picture.

Certainly there are challenges and passions from both sides of the spectrum. I challenge each voter and candidate to work through this at a level that stays clear of personal attacks or slights on character, and stay focused on the issues directly. It's okay to agree to disagree. Debate is healthy..being disagreeable is not always so. Making personal attacks just for the sake of debate is not who we are as a community and it is not a trait we seek in candidates either.

As noted, this is not about personal gain it is about the community's gain and continued success.

Happy Canada Day.
