Open Space Nunavik Open Space is an alternative resource for youth aged 8-30 years old in Nunavik. What makes Open Space different?

Open Space (Aire Ouverte in French) is an alternative resource that offers a range of services aimed at meeting the needs and reality of young people aged 12 to 25 here in Nunavik. These services can include mental and physical health services, advice about study, work, housing, or information about legal and financial aid. These services are offered as a complementary to the services already exis

ting within the communities. The goal is to provide a space for youth to feel comfortable to express their needs and wants. This is why the collaboration and engagement of youth and their families are important means to achieving this goal. The services offered in an Open Area service point are free of charge and are done with respect for personal information. Youth and families, alike, who are interested in contributing to this project are invited to send us a message or communicate with [email protected].

Information About National Child Day

Canada has declared November 20th as National Child Day to celebrate the rights of children. November 20th was chosen as the day to celebrate National Child Day because the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 1989.

By signing onto the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, Canada made a commitment to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential. This commitment includes:

- Providing children opportunities to have a voice (speak out and be heard)
- Protecting children from harm
- Ensuring children's basic needs are met

Be that adult.
The one who accepts differences in others.
The one who contributes to increasing mental wellness protective factors.
The one who understands that their words and actions have an impact on the minds, hearts, and souls of young people.

Mental Health Reminder
You might have the right to make decisions that support your mental health and wellness, but you also have a responsibility to communicate your needs.

Perhaps child and youth mental health issues are more than bad parenting and bad kids.
Perhaps societal issues impact child and youth mental health...
To all people who have experienced the simplification of issues as professionals and systems attribute blame, judgements, and shaming to the very people who are looking for support for their children, we see you.
Every time we see blame and judgment in "research," we must challenge the inherent negative bias against parents and youth.
