🚨That convenience wearable pump companies try to sell you on is not worth the risk of losing your milk supply.

Did you know that all pumps are not created equal???

Here are some reasons why wearable pumps decrease supply🔻:

- The motor is small and the suction isn't as strong as a plug-in double pump. Less milk removed signals your body to make less.
- You might be using the wrong fl**ge size. Most pumps come with fl**ges that are too big (intentional?). This also lowers your output and increases pain.
- The tight fit between your bra/shirt can cause compression on the milk ducts
- Do you have a harder time having a letdown when using a wearable pump? Your brain may be too focused on other things than feeding your baby, you may also not be getting a letdown as easily because the suction/fit isn't there.
-Maybe your output when using your wearable pump isn't what you thought it should be and now you are doubting your milk supply and start supplementing.

Don't buy a pump because you think you need one to breastfeed.

I would love to work with you and your baby to reach your breastfeeding goals. If you are using a pump, it could be the pump that is the cause of the problem.

My guidance for someone expecting their first baby is to seek out a prenatal breastfeeding class and read (evidence-based)what you can about breastfeeding while you are pregnant (not TikToK).

Know a couple resources who you can reach out to for support. La Leche League is a wonderful free resource for all things breastfeeding. Read about establishing your milk supply in those first few weeks and how to get breastfeeding off to a great start.

Reminder, you can ALWAYS ask questions.

Unlike the ridiculous legal fight of a Florida woman, most facilities will accept your autonomy - even if there's some pushback.

Discussion and respect is how we have safe birth without unnecessary trauma. Doctors, midwives, nurses who practice with respect will have these conversations with you to help you make informed decisions and understand if there's a true medical concern.

SEEING GREEN p**p💩 in your babies diaper can be alarming for some parents.

What does it mean?

Occasional green diapers aren't something to be overly concerned about. Watch your baby. Are they generally doing well otherwise? Green can happen if baby is drinking from a very full breast with a fast/overactive letdown. The lactose in the milk processes quicker through your baby's system resulting in a green p**p. Is this overly concerning? No. Is there things I can help you do to navigate this? YES!

Now what if you see mucus in that green p**p...

Mucus is more jelly like. Like snot. If you see this along with the green p**p it can be a sign that your baby has some irritation going on inside.
What may be the reason... has your baby been ill recently? Mucus can be from them swallowing extra saliva, boogers or from medication they may have received. Maybe they haven't been sick but they had a new food recently in your journey of introducing solids. Are they teething? That drool they swallowed can also irritate the stomach.

What if it is green and frothy?

Did the p**p absorb right into the diaper like p*e and is happening frequently? This is a sign of diarrhea. Babies can become dehydrated quickly. Offer the breast frequently to keep on top of hydration and seek medical attention.

🚦
GREEN💩 = faster emptying/flow (May be of concern)
YELLOW💛💩= Slow (All is good)

I woke up this morning in a bit of a haze. I woke up to my alarm clock instead of waking up before, which I often do. Despite going to bed early, I still woke up feeling more tired and thinking today needs to be gentle-- a bit of a recovery day. It made me think of those who were in a birth high. Then night 2 hits and wow, the demands of the new baby waking to feed often-- maybe feels constant, it's a lot. You feed, you drift to sleep and then are awoken by this new life. Is this normal? Is my body working right? Night 2 throws a person. You are already so vulnerable. Your hormones are hormoning. You are all the emotions. Your body hurts. Your baby demands a level of you, you never had to give before. And you may be concerned because yesterday was much more chill.

Steps to support you through Night 2:
1) Breastfeed your baby often and keep them close
2)Your baby needs your constant comfort and wants to be with you, preferably skin to skin
3) Baby is fussy and that's normal. Repeat steps 1 and 2
4) Rest and recover

Knowing that this happens before your baby is born can be reassuring for a new parent. Not knowing can cause alarm 🚨and perhaps really throw off breastfeeding. Doubts may creep in and with that, unnecessary formula.

Why is cluster feeding good?
- It support your milk production
- Supports infant nutrition
- It helps baby and you practice breastfeeding
- It helps keep baby close for safety
- Supports bonding and attachment
- Support maternal recovery and infant health

⭐Please share this with a soon to be parent.

How to support a new parent:
- Bring them food
- Reassure them and validate their experience
- Share evidence based breastfeeding resources with them, not a pump or formula. Remind them of the breastfeeding supports available
- Let them recover and ease into their new role as parents

Fun Post🌟💫👶🏼

Where did you go into labor? Were you at home
Or maybe you were doing a last minute shop at Costco like this new parent.

I was in early labor with my 2nd baby at Costco. I remember having a good contraction while standing in the appliance aisle.

I want to hear yours!

https://www.facebook.com/share/1GhD4NsDj2/?mibextid=wwXIfr

❤️ This morning at the Winterburn Costco, one local family took “bulk delivery” to a whole new level. After a quick $1.50 hot dog (the fuel of champions), this little guy decided he couldn’t wait for the hospital.

He was delivered right in front of the Tire Centre just 20 minutes after the first contraction! 🛠️👶

The best part? Dad handled the delivery like a pro. No membership required for this entrance! Mom and baby are doing great, and while they didn’t name him Kirk, we think he at least deserves a lifetime supply of rotisserie chickens. 🍗✨

Tag below and let’s get this kid a gold star membership! ⭐️
