Losing a pet can be incredibly stressful, and unfortunately, scammers sometimes take advantage of that emotion.

West Shore RCMP recently received a report where an individual searching for their lost cat was contacted by someone claiming to have information about the pet. The caller demanded payment in exchange for details about the animal’s whereabouts.

Stay alert and trust your instincts πŸˆπŸ•

Members of our Community & Indigenous Policing Unit recently visited Belmont Secondary and Royal Bay Secondary to speak with students about the safe and legal use of E-bikes and E-scooters.

Some of the key reminders included:
βœ”οΈ Wear a helmet
βœ”οΈ No passengers unless the device is designed for more than one rider
βœ”οΈ Stay off sidewalks
βœ”οΈ Follow all traffic laws
βœ”οΈ You must be at least 16 years old to ride an E-scooter or standard E-bike. You must be at least 14 years old to ride a light E-bike.

As more students choose E-bikes and E-scooters to get around, knowing the rules helps keep everyone safe.

Are You Missing Your Suitcase? 🧳

A blue cloth Samsonite suitcase was found in the 700 block of Latoria Road in Langford on May 12 after it appeared to have fallen from a vehicle.

Officers were able to link the suitcase to an unknown female who was seen with it at the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal a few days earlier.

If you believe this suitcase belongs to you, please contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 and reference file #2026-8773.

Earlier this month, the West Shore RCMP Drugs and Organized Crime Unit seized suspected co***ne and fentanyl, thousands of suspected narcotic pills, more than $10,000 in cash, replica handguns, and assorted weapons while executing two search warrants in Langford.

The investigation began earlier this year into suspected drug trafficking operating out of two residential properties.

A 43-year-old man was arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing. Read more: https://bit.ly/4ff7I6H

Thank you to the callers who quickly reported a vehicle that struck a fence and fire hydrant in Colwood on May 26.

Thanks to their prompt actions, West Shore RCMP officers quickly located the vehicle and pursued an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, the vehicle was impounded, and a violation ticket was issued for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
