Hello Friends! It's been a while since I've been to this page. I'm going to go ahead and blame being a new mom and a small business owner on that one, but I've also been exploring creative endeavours too!
This is Politrix in her debut Burlesque number. She'll pop up now and again as the year goes on.

Just dropping a little note to say thanks again for all the support last election, and stay tuned for little updates along the way.

If you ever want to chat Politics, hit me up at Pints and Politics at the brewery. The next one will be May 5th at 4 pm - 8 pm and is a drop-in style conversation.

Once you start really looking at how much space we give over to cars unnecessarily, you start seeing the potential to create people-centered spaces everywhere. Unfortunately the Land Use Bylaw review will not affect community design standards and lane width standards. That will take different policy change.

The good news is this type of policy action reduces costs:
- public areas are designed to slow traffic and reduce car dependence
- Slower traffic reduces collisions and collision severity, resulting in lower costs for emergency service responses and less strain on our emergency services
- legitimately it is cheaper to maintain this type of infrastructure than asphalt laneways.
- The added trees create street shade that breaks the urban heat dome effect

Winter is a great time to view where drivers actually use the roads and how much extra space is given over to cars unnecessarily. We can make better use of our public spaces.

We missed this last night because I was at the University of Lethbridge for an event, but so glad to hear the numbers turned out! Events like this help grow our sense of connection and community. Looking forward to taking Quinn to see the tree soon.

A robust and well-funded public transit system attracts all users, decreases pressure on our roadways, and incidents of collisions and serious injury/death to our citizens.
I encourage folks to demand better investment in our public transit.

Fall in southern Alberta is a fickle season for outdoor work. Temperatures can rival the days of late summer or plunge sub-zero along with snow and fierce winds. The only thing we can count on in Lethbridge is that we’ll likely get a few of both the aforementioned days, and a lot more moderate (al...

So I went to the Honourable Rachael Thomas' town hall this evening at the Sandman Signature, and I have a few take-aways. The first is that the Conservatives will be true to their word and not back the Liberal budget (that's fine, no one expected them to), but Mrs. Thomas also offered only criticisms and no solutions to the problems she raised with the budget, and the actions of the current Government.

I find myself continually disappointed by partisan party-politicking. She highlighted nothing about what she was working on, except for "holding the government to account" and that, according to Mrs. Thomas, was the only role of the esteemed opposition.

Rather, I would have liked to see some kind of commitment to reach across the aisle (a girl can dream, ok?) to accomplish some of the much-needed legislative work that needs to be done. I appreciated the moments of deep compassion when it came to the victims of crime, and the disappearance of local children. As a mother, I shared her profound sadness and was quite moved. But I am also cynical of her politicization of the victims of crimes and using local stories to mount attacks against legislation without offering anything of substance towards a direction of justice.

She did note that if an election were called now, it is likely that Carney would be re-elected, and the process would be a waste of time, which I agree with. But still, no offers of policy positions or work she is doing to ease the stress of her people. Indeed, with all the doom and gloom in her speech notes, rather she added to it.

I'm going to sit with my thoughts for a little while, and perhaps expand on them on my website.

Were you in attendance? What did you think?
