Housing is one of the most pressing issues facing families here in Lunenburg and across Nova Scotia. As I hear from my neighbours and friends, I know just how hard it’s become to find affordable, safe, and suitable housing. This is an issue that hits home for me personally, as I too am navigating the challenges of finding a new home for my family in our community. That’s why I’m proud to stand with Zach Churchill and the Nova Scotia Liberals in our plan to deliver a better deal on housing.

Our commitment to building 80,000 homes by 2032 is bold, but it’s exactly the kind of action we need to solve the housing crisis. Tim Houston’s PC government has failed to address housing in any meaningful way, and while the NDP has proposed some good ideas, their policies don’t go far enough. Nova Scotians need real solutions, and the Liberals are prepared to deliver.

Our plan includes innovative approaches that will make a tangible difference for families, seniors, and marginalized communities:

Re-thinking municipal zoning standards to speed up housing developments and cut red tape, while ensuring that restrictive covenants are eliminated.
Investing in innovative building technologies, like modular housing and mass timber, to lower costs and build more homes faster.

Fixing the broken property tax system to make it fairer, encourage development, and remove barriers for downsizing seniors and first-time homebuyers.

Doubling non-profit housing stock and supporting vulnerable populations, such as African Nova Scotians, Mi’kmaq communities, and women fleeing domestic violence.

Expanding co-op housing to create 2,000 new units, offering affordable and community-centered housing options.

We’re also committed to ensuring that no Nova Scotian pays more than 30% of their income on housing—a benchmark of affordability that we must achieve.

As someone who’s dedicated much of my career to advocating for youth and families, I understand how deeply the housing crisis affects every aspect of our lives. From mental health to economic stability, safe and affordable housing is the foundation that supports us all.

Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home. That’s why a Nova Scotia Liberal government will do everything possible to address our housing crisis. Our plan is to build 80,000 new homes by 2032—keeping pace with our population growth and ensuring affordable options for all. By building 11,000 new homes each year, we can create lasting solutions for families across the province.

This November 26th, vote for a stronger future. Vote Liberal. Vote Melissa Duggan.

The Liberal Party’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure and expanding cell service is an initiative I am proud to support. As someone who has lived and worked in rural Nova Scotia for many years, I know firsthand the challenges that come with unreliable connectivity and infrastructure gaps. These issues are more than just inconveniences, they are barriers to safety, economic growth, and equitable access to resources.

Investing in our 100-series highways is a vital step toward making travel safer and more efficient for all Nova Scotians, especially those of us in rural communities. Ensuring reliable cell service along these highways is not just a convenience; it’s a matter of public safety. When we’re on the road, we should be able to trust that we can make a call in an emergency.

Tim Houston’s approach, which prioritizes removing tolls on Halifax bridges at the expense of rural infrastructure, shows a clear lack of understanding of rural needs. We deserve better. By committing to projects like expanding cell service and completing critical highway corridors, the Nova Scotia Liberals are making a clear statement: rural Nova Scotia matters.

This is the kind of forward-thinking leadership we need to ensure safety, connectivity, and opportunity for everyone in our province. I’m excited to work with Zach Churchill and the Liberal team to make these improvements a reality. Together, we can build a stronger and safer Nova Scotia.

The CBC Leaders Debate gave Nova Scotians the chance to see who is truly ready to lead—and Zach Churchill delivered. Our Liberal leader stood out as the only one with bold, innovative ideas and a plan to give Nova Scotians a Better Deal.

The contrast couldn’t have been clearer. The PCs defended their empty pamphlet of a platform—heavy on pictures, light on solutions. Their leader repeated his tired mantra of “Make It Happen,” but what exactly does he want to happen? More Nova Scotians struggling to find a family doctor? More people priced out of their homes? His track record speaks for itself—and it’s not good for families in this province.

The NDP, meanwhile, stuck to unrealistic, pie-in-the-sky ideas that fail to address what Nova Scotians need. Their housing plan ignores supply, their affordability strategy leaves out middle-class families, and their healthcare approach doesn’t invest in preventative care.

The difference was undeniable: Zach Churchill and the Liberal team brought forward a comprehensive, fully costed plan.

Zach laid it out clearly:

👉 A $3,000 tax cut for Nova Scotians.
👉 A real solution to build 80,000 new homes while protecting renters and investing in deeply affordable housing.
👉 A healthcare plan that prioritizes getting doctors back into family practice and patients attached to care.

This isn’t just a platform—it’s our contract with you. With Zach Churchill and the Liberals, you know exactly what you’re voting for: action, solutions, and a better future for Nova Scotia.

Anyone who knows me understands my unwavering dedication to building a stronger, more accessible healthcare system for all Nova Scotians. I’ve spent nearly 20 years working in Pediatric Mental Health and Addictions, and every day, I see firsthand the importance of having a system that supports families when they need it most.

A vote for me is a vote for those same values: compassion, action, and a commitment to improving the health and well-being of every person in our community. Together, we can ensure that healthcare in Nova Scotia meets the needs of all who call this province home.
