March Break is a popular time for families to travel and enjoy a well-deserved vacation. Before you settle into your hotel, cottage, or rental, take a moment to check that there are working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the lodging.

These devices provide an early warning and can save lives in the event of a fire or carbon monoxide emergency.

✔ Look for smoke alarms on every level and near sleeping areas
✔ Check for a carbon monoxide detector, especially if the building has fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage
✔ If possible, press the test button to make sure they’re working

A quick check can give you peace of mind so you can focus on enjoying your March Break safely.

Don't forget to have an escape plan too!

Prolonged heavy rain is expected in our area today and may lead to basement flooding, flooded roadways, and significantly increased water levels and flows in local creeks, streams, and rivers.

Residents are reminded to:
• Monitor basement areas and sump pumps
• Avoid driving through flooded roads or low-lying areas
• Use extra caution near waterways, as fast-moving water and rapidly changing conditions can be dangerous

Please stay alert for flooded areas and adjust travel plans if necessary. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.

Stay safe and continue to monitor local conditions throughout the day.

🚒 Training This Weekend 🚒

Several of our newer firefighters spent the weekend continuing their education as they work toward completing their NFPA Firefighter II certification.

Firefighting requires ongoing learning, dedication, and countless hours of training. These members are building on the skills they developed during their Firefighter I training and continuing to grow their knowledge to better serve and protect our community.

We appreciate the commitment these firefighters show by giving up their weekends to train and improve their skills.

👏 Thank you for your dedication to the community and to the fire service.

⏰ Spring Ahead Tonight – Don’t Forget Your Alarms! 🚨

When you change your clocks tonight for the spring time change, take a moment to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as well.

Working alarms provide an early warning and can make the difference in an emergency. It only takes a few minutes to help protect your home and family.

✔ Replace the batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
✔ Press the test button to make sure they are working
✔ Replace alarms that are more than 10 years old

A simple habit that saves lives: Change your clocks, change your batteries.

⚠️ Changing Weather Conditions – Use Caution

With the recent rain and melting snow, residents may notice rapidly changing conditions across the Township. These conditions can lead to:

• Localized flooding in low-lying areas
• Water pooling on roads and properties
• Rapidly weakening ice conditions on lakes, rivers, and ponds

Residents are reminded that no ice is safe ice, especially during periods of rain and thaw.

Please use caution near waterways and flooded areas, and keep children and pets away from unstable ice.

Stay safe and stay aware of changing conditions.

🚒 New Apparatus in Service 🚒

Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service is proud to announce the delivery of two new frontline apparatus to enhance the safety and service we provide to our community.

A new Mini Rescue has been accepted and will be placed in service at Station 4, replacing a pick-up truck and a very well-seasoned rescue truck that has served us reliably for many years.

We have also taken delivery of a new Pumper, which will be housed at Station 3, replacing a truck that had reached the end of its service life.

These additions strengthen our operational readiness and ensure our firefighters have modern, reliable equipment when responding to emergencies.

We extend our sincere thanks to MAXIMETAL , Commercial Emergency Equipment Co. , and Alex Cafovski for their assistance in helping us bring these units into service.

Thank you to our Council and community for your continued support of fire service excellence.
