🐢 A Successful Turtle Release on Hurdville Road!

During Phase II of the reconstruction of Hurdville Road, the Township of McKellar and Generations Effect worked together throughout the turtle nesting season to carefully collect and protect just over 300 snapping turtle eggs.

Yesterday, on behalf of Council, Mayor David Moore, Councillor Morley Haskim and Councillor Mike Kekkonen had the opportunity to release a clutch of 68 snapping turtles back into the area where the eggs originally came from. 🐢💚

A special thank you to Weeks Construction Inc. for their care and attention in ensuring the turtle eggs remained unharmed throughout the reconstruction portion of the project.

We would also like to extend our thanks to RHH Engineering for their work and support throughout the project.

It was wonderful to see these little snappers make their way back home! 🌿🐢

With the 2026 Municipal Election approaching, here are a couple of important reminders for McKellar ratepayers:

🏛️ Interested in running for Council?

Nomination papers can be filed with the Clerk until Friday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. Nominations will not be accepted after 2:00 p.m.

If you have questions about the nomination process or filing requirements, please contact the Township Office.

🗳️ Check Your Voter Registration

If you recently checked your information with Elections Ontario, there is no need to check again with the Township.

If you have not recently checked your voter information, please contact the Township Office to:
✔️ Confirm you are on the Voters’ List
✔️ Add yourself to the list
✔️ Request a correction to your information

As this is the first election under this new list management process with Elections Ontario, we encourage electors to make sure their information is accurate and up to date.
