Over the last several weeks, our members have been conducting in-house technical rescue core training days with their platoons. This involves a morning of NFPA 1006 Common Passenger Vehicle Auto Extrication and an afternoon of NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Operations. These training days ensure our staff are up to date on new practices, standards and a chance to enhance their already proficient skills

With the barbecue season under way across Ontario, the Meaford Fire Department recommends taking a few safety precautions before grilling that first meal this summer.

Barbecuing is one of the great pleasures of summer and the fire service wants to make sure everyone enjoys the season safely. Before you fire it up for the first time this year, check and clean your propane barbecue following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Remember that barbecues are for outdoor use only. If used in an enclosed space, carbon monoxide – an odourless, colourless, poisonous gas – will gather and reach dangerous exposure levels, which can lead to serious health effects, or even death.

For more information and safety tips about propane barbecues, visit the Technical Standards and Safety Authority website: safetyinfo.ca.

On International Firefighters' Day, we honour the sacrifices and dedication of firefighters worldwide who risk their lives to keep their communities safe.

COURAGE - PASSION - HONOUR

These values resonate with our firefighters and exemplify who we are and what we believe. Courage to face whatever danger lies before us, Passion to be the best we can be and Honour above all else. The dedication and resilience that members of the Meaford Fire Department display are extraordinary.

Take a moment to thank our firefighters and their families for the incredible sacrifices they make every single day to keep our communities safe.

This week is known nationally as Emergency Preparedness Week! (May 3 - 9)

Make a Plan – Although the consequences of disasters can be similar, knowing the risks specific to our community and our region can help you better prepare. It will help you and your family make quick decisions when time counts

Build a Kit - During an emergency, we will all need basic supplies. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in an emergency. These items include non perishable food items, water, flashlight, matches, first aid kit, important documents, portable AM/FM radio, clothing, etc

Be Informed - Listen to the radio, sign up for regional alerts, follow municipal media accounts, communicate with your neighbours

Emergencies can happen at any time and without warning. Be ready! With a little preparation, you can respond quickly to help yourself and others
