We had a wonderful fall morning for Fire Prevention Week, doing equipment demonstrations for the little ones at La Garderie, holding a fire drill at the high school, and speaking with students afterwards.

These demonstrations and fire drills help us refresh our knowledge of what to look for in an emergency at daycares and schools.

We greatly appreciate the patience of all the teachers and students today, and we want to remind you that fire drills are important at home, too.

Always practise your home escape plan and create a layout so your family remembers the exits and where to meet outside.

We recommend practising several times a month to prepare your family better.

We also recommend keeping important documents, such as insurance and medical documents, readily available when you leave your home.

Staying vigilant this fall and throughout the year adds to your family's emergency preparedness.

Happy fall, everyone, and stay warm.

Here is a great demonstration of how a lithium-ion electric scooter fire can start, from our fellow brothers and sisters at DC Fire and EMS.

As you can see in this video, a lithium-ion scooter battery explosion can cause a fire that quickly spreads throughout a room.

Even scooters used by kids can be dangerous if left plugged in and unattended.

When charging any of these mobility devices, charge them away from doorways, and never leave them plugged in while outdoors or while out shopping.

Stay safe this fall season, and continue to stay vigilant.
