Even when the lighthouse isn't open, you can meet visitors with a story that's worth sharing. Two couples were wandering the grounds when we started a conversation with them the other day. One couple was from Wales and shared a Titanic story with us. They're from a village in Wales called Cemaes, Anglesey. If you go online and search "Twm Titanic" you'll learn about a Titanic suvivor from their home community. Thomas William Jones was part of the deck crew on the Titanic and was put in charge of lifeboat number 8 on that fateful night. He became lifelong friends with another survivor on that lifeboat, Countess of Rothes who comforted others and even manned an oar. She gifted him a silver pocket watch and he gave her a plaque with the number 8 from the lifeboat. Many years after his death, a daughter sold the pocket watch in an auction. She later discovered that descendents of the Countess of Rothes had purchased it!

Check out this week's Eastern Graphic and read a story about our little lighthouse. As you can see in a couple of these pictures, it was in bad shape and needed a face lift. We're pleased that we were able to connect with Montague High School's carpentry class where Liam Dijkema took on the challenge of building us a completely new little lighthouse!
Thanks, Liam!!
It will soon be on site at Cape Bear and ready for summer photo shoots.
