Moles, spots, and growths on your skin are usually harmless—but not always.

Examine the skin all over your body once a month and look for these “ABCDE” warning signs:
- Asymmetry. Does one half of the mole not match the other in shape, size, colour, or appearance?
- Borders. Are the edges uneven, scalloped or notched?
- Colours. Are there many shades (brown, red, white, blue or black)?
- Diameter greater than 6 mm. Is the mole the size of a pencil eraser or larger?
- Evolution. Has there been a change in size, shape, colour, or height? Has a new symptom developed (like bleeding, itching or crusting)?
