Founded in 2022 by Tara Sypniewski, The Ottawa Trans Library (OTL) houses an archive and collection of books by trans authors, as well as historical, important and interesting works on trans issues and people.

Mariam only has weeks to get out! 🏳️‍⚧️

Our friend Mariam (it’s a pseudonym, to protect her identity) is a young trans woman in Tunisia, where being trans is criminalized. Trans women there routinely face arrest, imprisonment in men’s facilities, and sexual violence while incarcerated.

Time is running out: her physical changes from self-medicating HRT are becoming more and more difficult to hide, and her extremely transphobic sibling is moving back home in early 2027, so we need to get her out before then!

She needs to leave safely and seek asylum in France. Your donation goes directly toward her flights, and various essentials during the travelling and asylum process.

Our goal is 4000 Euro

Come! Join us for an evening of admiring and exploring the artwork of Amir Patros!
This solo art show is being displayed October 1st to 31st. 🍂

Opening Art Show is October 2nd, from 6:30 to 8:30PM

Amir’s adventures in Ontario have informed the content in his ongoing body
of work. It began with revitalizing his honest self by embracing his vivid imagination. This is what encouraged him to utilize the trauma he experienced due to his gayness/transness and reclaim it as a tool to create. Through the explorations of his heart, he manifested the characterization of Prince Zorah, a fantastical alter-ego prominently
featured in his work and world-building. His journey involves realistic and mythological imagery based on Amir’s Iraqi Chaldean upbringing. The narratives within Amir’s practice pertain to his real feelings within marginalization and the deep-rooted love he
cherishes. The introspection and admiration of his Iraqi, gay and trans ancestors have influenced this love of creating folktales based on resistance.
