Today, the First Nations Clean Water Act passed second reading in the House of Commons, marking an important step in moving this legislation forward.

The bill will now move to committee for further study, providing additional opportunities for First Nations to share their perspectives and help strengthen the legislation.

We know how important it is to get this right. First Nations have been advocating for safe drinking water and recognition of their rights and jurisdiction over water for far too long.

This legislation is about making sure First Nations families can turn on their taps knowing the water is safe to drink, and that First Nations have the authority and resources to make decisions about water in their own communities.

Today is a historic day for the Saskatoon Tribal Council, our member communities and the Government of Canada, as we sign Māmowōhkamātowin -- a new agreement for First Nations-led Child and Family Services.

I had the opportunity to attend the Truth and Reconciliation Game hosted by the Val-d’Or Foreurs, organized in collaboration by the Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Val-d’Or Native Friendship Centre.
This initiative is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities come together around shared values and common goals. It highlights the importance of dialogue and collaboration among organizations across our region.
I am pleased to see these kinds of partnerships and activities continue to grow throughout our riding. Thank you to the organizers for their dedication, and congratulations to the teams for an entertaining game!

Today, I joined the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) and all seven member First Nations to sign māmowōhkamātowin — “working together” in Cree — the first regional agreement in Saskatchewan under the long-term reform of First Nations child and family services.

Backed by $269 million over seven years, this agreement supports First Nations in reclaiming a responsibility that should have always been theirs: making decisions about how services are delivered in their own communities.

As a Cree woman and a mother, this work is personal to me. Our children deserve to know who they are, where they come from and where they belong.

Congratulations to Tribal Chief Arcand, the Saskatoon Tribal Council and all seven member Nations on this historic achievement. Your leadership and determination will help more children grow up surrounded by family, culture and community. And this is just the beginning. We’re working with First Nations across the country to reach more regional agreements and support more communities in bringing decisions about their children and families home.
