FireSmart Treatments starting this week.
Last year Lil’wat FireSmart performed 37 home assessments, this year we are doing mitigation work around the homes that were previously assessed.
Starting on Xitolacw Rd, followed by Black Bear Rd and the top of Creekside Rd. Will be going door to door letting people know about the work to be done, asking if they have any questions or concerns.

Lil’wat Lil'wat FireSmart and Lil’wat Lil'wat Forestry Ventures will be going door to door on Friday to answer any questions or concerns.

Líl̓wat Forestry Ventures (LFV), in collaboration with the Líl̓wat Nation and with support from BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) will be conducting a cultural burn covering up to 34.3 hectares in the Pemberton Zone of the Coastal Fire Centre, directly adjacent to the Xet̓ólacw community of Mount Currie and five kilometres northeast of Pemberton.

Please note smoke may be visible from Xet̓ólacw, Owl Ridge, Pemberton and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 99 (Duffey Lake Road).

The exact timing of this burn will depend on suitable weather and site conditions, but is anticipated to occur in stages from April to November 2026. Burning will proceed if conditions allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, although smoke may also linger in the following days. Depending on conditions, burn operations may be divided into individual sub-units and conducted on separate days.

To help maintain forest health and reduce the risk of wildfires, the BC Wildfire Service and Sea to Sky Natural Resource District will be supporting Lil'wat Nation and Lil'wat Forestry Ventures in conducting a cultural burn covering up to 5.6 hectares in the Pemberton Zone of the Coastal Fire Centre.

The burn site is approximately 40 km west-northwest of Pemberton, in the Lillooet River valley, between North and Sampson Creeks, upslope of Qám̓tmin̓twal̓ Stswaw̓cw (where North Creek joins the Lillooet River).

Smoke may be visible from Pemberton Meadows and from certain vantages within Village of Pemberton and Mount Currie. The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Saturday, April 11. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
