🚨 Public Notice: Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) in the Community 🚨
We have been notified of a confirmed case of canine parvovirus (parvo) within the community.
Parvo is a highly contagious and serious virus affecting dogs, especially puppies and unvaccinated animals. It spreads easily through contact with infected f***s, contaminated ground, and even on shoes, clothing, or equipment.
We have confirmed with the owner that the dog is contained on their property and is not roaming.
As a precaution, community members are advised to use caution while walking dogs in the Riverside West area between Micmac and Smokehouse Road. While this is a general area of concern, it is important to understand that parvo can spread through the environment, and all areas of the community should be considered at risk.
What dog owners need to do:
- Keep your dogs contained at home – do not allow roaming
- Avoid contact with other dogs, including playdates or gatherings
- Ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date
Monitor your dog closely for symptoms such as:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea (possibly with blood)
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
If your dog shows any of these signs, please seek veterinary care immediately and inform Animal Control.
Important information:
Parvo can survive in the environment for months, particularly in soil and shaded areas. Avoid letting your dog access areas where unknown dogs may have been.
Working together:
A general notice is being issued to help protect all dogs in the community. Out of respect for privacy, no specific location details will be shared. We thank everyone for their cooperation in helping protect the health of our community’s dogs.
If you are aware of other sick dogs or have concerns, please report them so we can respond quickly and help prevent further spread.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community’s animals safe.
