If you plan to work, study, or conduct business outside of Canada, foreign authorities may require proof that your Saskatchewan public documents are authentic. In Saskatchewan, Authentication Services is the official body responsible for verifying these documents and issuing apostille certificates.

Why You Need an Apostille

When presenting documents like birth certificates, powers of attorney, academic diplomas or any notarized documents abroad, the destination country needs to know the signatures and seals on them are genuine. An apostille certificate serves as this official verification, confirming that the document matches official provincial records.

The Apostille Convention

As of January 11, 2024, Canada is a member of the Apostille Convention. Any document authenticated in Saskatchewan on or after this date receives a standardized "apostille" certificate. This streamlined process ensures your documents are legally recognized in all other member countries without the need for further steps.

People You Absolutely Should Not Marry

Degrees of consanguinity basically spell out who’s way too closely related for you to be walking down the aisle with. In other words: your no-go list. You may not marry your:
- Grandmother (please don’t)
- Grandfather (also no)
- Father (hard pass)
- Mother (just… no)
- Son (absolutely not)
- Daughter (still no)
- Granddaughter (don’t even think about it)
- Grandson (nope)
- Brother (big no)
- Sister (extra big no)

And yes — this applies whether they’re whole-blood, half-blood, or adopted. If they’re on the list, they’re off the market.

DID YOU KNOW?
A marriage licence is valid for 90 days and takes effect the day after it is issued (so no, you can't get married on the day you get you marriage license). It may be purchased anywhere from one to 90 days before the wedding ceremony.

Marriage licences purchased outside Saskatchewan are not valid for marriage in Saskatchewan. For example, couples purchasing an Alberta marriage licence must be married in Alberta.

The cost of a marriage licence is $60 and here in Prince Albert, you can get yours from one of two locations:
- Our Little Secret Boutique, and
- Unique Weddings by Craft Haven
