🚸 SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY REMINDER

Our children are walking to school. Let’s work together to keep them safe.

🛑 Drive 30 km/hr or Less

The community speed limit is 30 km/hr. During school drop-off and pick-up hours, please slow down even further.

🛑 STOP at Stop Signs

Recent observations show drivers rolling through stop signs or braking only when a patrol car is nearby. You must come to a complete stop every single time.

🛑 Stop for School Buses

It is illegal and dangerous to pass a school bus with flashing red lights. You must come to a complete stop in both directions until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is retracted.

🛑 Stay Alert

• Expect children crossing unexpectedly.

• Put away all cell phones and distractions.

• Leave 5 minutes early so you never have to rush.

Safety is a shared responsibility. Slow down and stop.

Today's School Visit: Cards, Culture and Caribou!! 🃏🙌

Sgt. Einish and Cst. Sanchez enjoyed connecting with the students at Jimmy Sandy Memorial School from elementary to high school.

Not only sharing stories, playing a quick game of cards, the students shared Naskapi Culture with our Columbian "cousin" leaving with new flavours and a little Naskapi in his vocabulary! 👏

Seeing our youth engaged, open and welcoming is exactly what we strive for in our community policing: reaching out, building trust, sharing a few laughs along the way. Thank you for having us! The kids definitely schooled us for a change! 💙

Al-Anon is a mutual support group.

We are friends and families of alcoholics and addicts who come together to share experience, strength, and hope with each other and to recover from the effects of someone else’s drinking or drug habit

It's anonymous and confidential.

Everything you say stays within the meeting. There’s no registration and no attendance list. Anonymity is central to Al-Anon recovery.

Meetings vary—try a few before u say its not for you.

Each meeting is autonomous and runs as its members choose, within broad guidelines.

For me join us tomorrow, Wed October 14, 2026 for our first mtg 16 years and up at the Wellness Centre led by Jessica Mitchell 7-8pm

A Beautiful Midnight Sight: Let’s Protect Our Moose Neighbors 🫎✨

During night shift patrol, Officers Alain Michael and Mike had a truly special encounter—they spotted a beautiful moose moving through our area.

Seeing such an iconic, magnificent animal up close is a wonderful reminder of the incredible nature we share our home with. Because moose are wild, powerful creatures who deserve their peace, we want to echo a gentle reminder to the community: if you are lucky enough to cross paths with one, please let them be, keep your distance, and let them roam freely.

How We Can Watch Out for Them:

* Give Them Plenty of Space: Moose are large and can startle or become defensive if they feel cornered. Giving them a wide berth ensures they can travel peacefully without unnecessary stress.

* Keep a Protective Eye Out: Please never harm, harass, or shoot these animals. They are a precious part of our natural heritage and deserve to roam safely.

* Drive Mindfully at Night: Because their dark coats make them incredibly difficult to see under the cover of darkness, keeping an extra watchful eye on the roads during late-night hours helps prevent dangerous collisions.

A big thank you to Officers Alain Michael and Mike for their watchful eyes, and to all of you for helping ensure our local wildlife stays safe, wild, and free.

🧡National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Naskapi Police honours the survivors, their families, and the children who never made it home.

While we officially recognize them on this day, we must always remember the lasting, generational impacts that residential schools have had on our community.

We wear orange today, but our commitment to truth, listening, and reconciliation remains active 365 days a year. 🧡

ORANGE SHIRT DAY WALK, TOMORROW

The students at Jimmy Sandy Memorial School are walking on Wednesday, and they are asking us to walk with them.

Wednesday, September 30 at 1:20 p.m.

The Women's drumming group will be there. Wear orange if you have it.

FOR OUR ELDERS WHO WENT TO RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL
At 1:00 p.m., twenty minutes before the walk, the students want to recognize the Survivors among us. If you feel comfortable coming, you are invited. If you would rather not, that is understood.

Please pass this along to your family members.

Three door prizes will be drawn.

Hosted by Naskapi Wellness Programs, Kathleen Tooma's Beautiful Dawn Women's Shelter, and the Naskapi Police.

🕊️ Honoring the Legacy of Former Chief Samuel "Sammy" Pien

Yesterday was a deeply emotional day for our community as we came together to say our final goodbye to a legendary leader, mentor, and protector: former Police Chief Samuel "Sammy" Pien.

The Naskapi Police Force, led by current Chief Condo, stood in full attendance to stand guard and pay their highest respects. They were accompanied by former Chief William (Billy) Moffat and École nationale de police du Québec (ENPQ) representative Ivan Gray, representing the deep, widespread respect Chief Pien earned throughout his lifelong career.

Chief Pien’s legacy is not just in the history books—it lives on in the heartbeat of our community and in the dedication of the men and women who put on the uniform every day. He served as a trusted role model, guiding and inspiring generations of younger Naskapi-born officers.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the lasting impact of his life's work. The integrity, dignity, and protective spirit he instilled will continue to guide every officer who follows in his footsteps.

Our deepest thoughts, prayers, and condolences remain with Chief Pien’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

May he rest in eternal peace.
