💜Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

Do you know what to do if you suspect someone is experiencing an overdose?

Know the signs:
⚠️ Slow, weak or no breathing
⚠️ Cannot be woken or is unresponsive
⚠️ Pinpoint pupils
⚠️ Blue, grey or pale lips or skin
⚠️ Gurgling, choking or unusual snoring sounds

If you suspect an overdose:
☑️ Call 418-585-2293
☑️ Administer Naloxone/Narcan, if available
☑️ Stay with the person until help arrives

Naloxone/Narcan can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose.

Canada’s Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act helps protect you when you call for help during an overdose.

🎒 Back to School: A Message from the Naskapi Police Force 🦅

Now that the new school year is officially here, the Naskapi Police would like to remind everyone in our community that bullying is never okay.

Our children are our future, and every single child in Kawawachikamach deserves a safe, supportive, and peaceful space to learn, play, and grow.

Bullying is not always obvious. It can leave lasting impacts that manifest in different ways, including:

🩹 Physical signs: Unexplained injuries, damaged clothing, or missing belongings.

😔 Emotional distress: Increased anxiety, low self-esteem, or frequent sadness.

🎒 Social & academic changes: Social withdrawal from friends, avoiding school, or a sudden drop in academic performance.

💭 Behavioral shifts: Changes in eating or sleeping habits, mood swings, or loss of interest in favorite activities.

How you can help:

We encourage all parents, guardians, and elders to stay vigilant.

Talk to your children regularly. If you notice any changes in their behavior, take a quiet moment to check in. By listening without judgment, we help create a safe space for them to open up and share their struggles.

Let’s work together to make this school year safe, inclusive, and kind for every student.

🚨 COMMUNITY SAFETY NOTICE 🚨

🐕 We are asking all dog owners to please make sure your dogs are properly secured and do not roam freely around the community.

We have been seeing more dogs running loose, including groups of dogs together. This can create a safety concern for children, families, pedestrians, and other animals.

Please take responsibility for your pets and keep them on a leash or properly secured when outside.

🚌 Bus Safety at Jimmy Sandy Memorial School 👮🚸

This past week, the Naskapi Police Force had the opportunity to present Bus Safety to the students at JSMS! 📚

Our local officers, Cst. Bacon, a former J.S.M.S student, presented in Naskapi joined by Cst. Riverin and Sgt. Einish. They did a great job interacting with the students and making the presentation fun and interesting! 😊

It was great see the students engaged, learning, and asking questions especially about how they can stay safe on and around the school bus.

Connecting with our little ones is always a great opportunity to share knowledge, build trust, and encourage safe habits from a young age. 💙

A big thank you to JSMS and the students for welcoming us and participating!

Over the past week, our officers have responded to several calls involving methamphetamine and other related drugs. Sadly, many of these incidents have involved young adults and teenagers.

The Naskapi Police Force is committed to identifying those responsible for bringing these dangerous drugs into our community and holding them accountable through the justice system. But protecting our community starts with all of us.

As a Naskapi Nation, we must stand together and take action. We can make a difference by looking out for one another, protecting our youth, and sharing information that can help keep our community safe.

That’s why “If You See Something, Say Something” matters.

🚨 COMMUNITY SAFETY ALERT 🚨

Once again, methamphetamine could have resulted in the loss of a life in our community.

Last night, Naskapi Police officers responded to a call involving a person in distress. Thanks to the quick response, vigilance, and professionalism of our officers, a life was fortunately saved.

Methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous drug that continues to have devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities.

The Naskapi Police Force remains committed to addressing the harms caused by drugs and to keeping our community safe.

🚨🚔 COMMUNITY AWARENESS - ALCOHOL BY LAW .54 🚫🍺

The Naskapi Police Force would like to remind the community of Kawawachikamach the sale or delivery of alcohol beverages is forbidden in the province of Quebec AND By Law 54 prohibits the possession and consumption of alcohol in public places within Category 1A-N lands.

Recently, we have received concerns regarding the illegal sale of alcohol within the community. The unlawful distribution of alcohol can contribute to public intoxication, impaired driving, property damage, and other safety concerns that affect us all.
